I love that the text uses Bloom’s taxonomy. The change implementation model is an effective piece to promote discussions and tie those concepts to student learning and academic self. It allows students to make those connections and transfer knowledge and skill to other courses. The activities promote self discovery and understanding, with a pinch of hope and promise of a better academic life!

-- East Central College
This text is clearly superior to many of the study skills books that are in circulation today. It is so down to earth, uses concrete examples, case scenarios and allows students the ability to assess and correct their thoughts and behaviors.

-- Houston Community College
Finally, a textbook that actually uses reading and critical thinking strategies rather than just talking about them. This new, compelling fifth edition of Cornerstone: Discovering Your Potential, Learning Actively and Living Wellreflects a deeper focus on self-responsibility and active learning. It effectively utilizes SQ3R throughout, underscoring its importance to student success. Also new to this edition is the implementation of Bloom’s Taxonomy through a feature titled Knowledge in Bloom. This chapter-end activity helps students apply the information from each chapter by prompting them to reflect and respond to questions from each level of Bloom’s. Two new chapters on money and debt management and self-engagement meet students where they are. A totally revised and updated chapter on change and goal setting highlights the relationships between realistic goals and ushering positive change into one’s life.

With this book, I was never unprepared. The assignments were given in a timely manner, questions was not hard answer from the way the book was setup. This book also is a great tool to help you retain what you've learned so you won't be stumped on tests.

Written for idiots.,
This review is from: Cornerstone: Creating Success Through Positive Change (6th Edition) (Paperback)
I had to read this book for a college course. I read four pages from the first chapter and went on to answer three chapters' questions simply by guessing. Maybe I've been jaded by unusually difficult engineering courses (I doubt this) but this book makes you feel like an idiot just reading it. A good example is that they had a page of material for a scenario of a failing student committing to join a study group. She broke it down into 5 steps, made a mission statement and who bunch of other worthless steps opposed to just going over and asking "can I join your study group?" This book seems full of material just like that, I'm quite sure I could give this to a ten year old and have them comprehend every bit of it.
