Book Description

Epic Fantasy combines with Young Adult romance in this stunning new adventure set in a richly developed medieval world. Second Stone and Broken Stone are now available! Also be sure to look for Jaded Stone, the thrilling prequel to the Souls of the Stones series.

When Emariya Warren learns enemy forces have captured her father, she'll do anything to save him. Anything. Even marry a mysterious prince she knows nothing about in order to rally the strength to arrange a rescue. During her journey to Torian's foreign castle, Emariya comes face to face with her mother's killers--and a deadly secret.

Not only does Emariya possess a powerful but unexpected magical gift passed down through each of her families, the prince she's promised to marry possesses a third, and an ominous prophecy has warned the three gifts must never be combined.

If she breaks her promise to marry Torian, she won't be able to save her father and if she keeps it, she may bring a curse upon everything she holds dear. Determining which choice is best won't be easy, but when she meets the gorgeous prince who may desire more than just her heart, she realizes she will have to fight just to have a choice at all.

Her heart wants him desperately. Her head begs her to run. If she doesn't want to share her mother's fate, she'll have to find a way to untangle the truth from the lies in time to save herself.

Discover the heartbreaking betrayals, fascinating magic and fated love of Cornerstone.

Editorial Reviews

This book was epic. Just full of awesomeness. EPIC. I loved the fantasy, the characters, the plot, the world - everything!
- Moosubi Reviews

Friendship, love, betrayal, courage and goodness of the heart were all mashed up in this epic fantasy which had me smiling one minute and biting my nails the second.
- Escapism

Prince Torian is darkly handsome, and strangely compelling to both Riya and the reader. Did I mention Alpha Male material? No. Well, he comes very close.

From the Author

Souls of the Stones follows Emariya Warren as she navigates the three divided lands of her world, as well as the three families striving for control. The series incorporates traditional fantasy elements such as prophecy and magic with a love story that transcends genre and time.
Books in the Souls of the Stones Series:

The main trilogy is complete, and it includes the following titles:
  1. Cornerstone
  2. Second Stone
  3. Broken Stone
Related works include:
  • Gifted Stone - A pair of short stories (Best read any time after Cornerstone)
  • Severed Stone - A prequel novella  (It can be read at any time in the series, but fits best any time after Second Stone.)
  • Jaded Stone -  A prequel - Valencia's story(Can be read at any time in the series, but fits best post Second Stone.) - Get your copy of Jaded Stone now, for the limited time promotional price of $2.99.

Will there be more books?

While Broken Stone completed Emariya's storyline and wrapped up the major plot threads, there are still a lot of characters in Souls of the Stones who have more to say. I have every intention of telling some of their stories.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Start to a Series - Fantastic Heroine June 16, 2013
By Melinda
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
T say that I was taken aback at the quality of the writing of the heroine (protagonist) would be an understatement. Many of the other characters fall into your stereotypical roles, but our blushing, warm, strong, magical, and independent heroine was characterized so well that it actually carries the story quite well. There are a number of story arcs that weave together to form the plot - one is a power play t take over the three kingdoms to make them one, another is to rescue the heroines father from his prison cell, another is to find out and control the power of the magic of the three stones. These three things are all inextricable, and our heroines potential marriage to Prince Ahlen could bring disaster, or the power to bring peace to everyone, but with everyone trying to kill her, she doesn't know which way to turn, and who is telling the truth and who is just out for their own greed or power.

If this book had more character development, had greater polish, removed the stereotypes, and improved the dialog, it could easily have lifted itself into the five star range. As I got it for free, this was a rare treat indeed, and I commend the author for providing such a wonderful level of writing for the entire world at no charge. The story is terribly exciting at a non-stop pace with characters that you care about in the middle of problems that you will want to see solved.

The biggest complaint I had about the book was the ending. It is what I call a MIT ending or Moment In Time. One minute the book is there, the next minute the book ends. Nothing is solved. Nothing is wrapped up. No story arcs are cleanly resolved. Typically, an event occurs at the end of the book that throws some type of monkey wrench into the main situation, or adds new light on the situation.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's going to be one of "those" series December 7, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was hooked. Now I am waiting for the next installment. Cornerstone is loaded with depth and details. I like the "this love is bigger than the both of us" angle.
The writer makes you feel, right from the beginning, that the details are going to be all important and if you will continue reading you will be rewarded very soon. Oh and was I ever rewarded!! Cornerstone was a great read. I can't wait for the next book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cornerstone by Kelly Walker October 23, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This book is full of awesomeness! A must read! Yes, it's a fantasy with princess, princes, kings, queens and kingdoms, but the ideas within that were very well thought of. I have to admit, the first 60 pages was kind of confusing for me, maybe just because the author was still introducing us to the novel. As the story progresses it was just getting better and better and more exciting! It's filled with action and it left me predicting. I really like the idea of having 3 kingdoms and there is a different gift for each kingdom, but only if you're in the line (which were the princess, kings, etc.). Look at that cover, isn't it gorgeous!? The summary basically says it. I hate it when a book's summary is nothing like the story, but in Cornerstone, that's what you're going to expect. To be more straightforward, Emariya, the princess of Eltar is on a journey to Thalmas (another kingdom) with her escorts where she is to be married to my future husband (IN MY DREAMS) prince Torian. During their journey, a bunch of twisted events happened that left me at the edge of my seat!

Although it's 3rd person point of view, I could relate to the characters which I think the author did a marvelous job! I rarely, rarely, rarely, have crushes on the hero and Torian Ahlen is definitely one of them :"> Hehee... I wish I was Emariya right now. There is sorta' a love triangle in the book with of course Emariya (the princess), Torian (my prince!), and Emariya's super kind and caring best friend Garith. I also love Garith because he is such an understanding and trust worthy guy. The characters are such likable and I feel like I was watching a movie! So the bad guy here is... I'm not telling you, but I'm pretty sure you won't like him.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best YA Fantasy I have read in a while. October 24, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I was provided a copy of this book for review by the author for my honest opinion. This review first appeared on Parajunkee.
This book was awesome. The first half of the book was slow-moving as Ms. Walker establishes her characters and plot and then she flips it straight into epic-dom. Not a word. I know it's not a word, but it fits the last half of this book. I am actually kind of struggling trying to write this review. It's part speechlessness and part we'll talk about that, spoiler. Well then this, spoiler. What I can tell you is that there is a huge twist in this book and I did not see it coming.

The book opens with the death of Riya's mother. (I'm not even going to try to spell her full name. I will murder it.) While the whole scene is vague it leads the reader to believe that something fishy and perhaps a bit supernatural is going on. In chapter one we are in "present" time and ready to begin on Riya's journey. We discover that her father has been missing for some time and eventually we learn that he has been kidnapped by the rival land. (At least that is what everyone assumes. When you find out who really takes him....grrr.) The story continues from there. Her brother is the leader of their council. While, Riya does not have an actual seat on the council, she feels responsible for her people and will do anything to ensure that they do not go to war against Sheas. Even if it means marrying the neighboring lands king...who she soon suspects has ulterior and not too awesome reasons for seeking the marriage
The characters are richly detailed. I can picture them easily in my head. The same for the landscape and world the story is in. Ms.
