This is a very nice unit. It seems heavy and well-built. I love the Pyroceram top. Mine is currently being used with the external temperature sensor. The unit is a little slow to bring solutions up to temperature ( ie: 100 ml oil in 250 ml Pyrex beaker, heating from 20 degrees C to 105 degrees C takes ~ 25 minutes ). However, once at temperature, it seems to do a good job of maintaining the set temperature. The temperature setting readout blinks whenever the temperature of the solution ( when using the external sensor ) isn't at the temperature specified, and stops blinking when the solution temperature is within range of that set temperature. It would be nice if the readout indicated the current temperature in some way, rather than just the set temperature and an indication that you aren't at that temperature. I would love it if Corning could update the software to make this happen. That is the only reason for the 4 star rating rather than 5 stars. Also, the stirring mechanism is smooth and silent.

Overall the hot place is usable. Thats pretty much it, spin bar is too slow to start up so magnet has hard time sticking at higher speeds. Hot plate is slow to heat up slowing down production time in our compounding lab. Wouldn't buy another one.

GREAT hotplate/stirrer if kept under 2000mL reaction volume. After that, go cheaper hotplate and overhead stir. Just my .02. Would recommend.
