I've had four of these for several years, and they were my favorite for microwaving frozen veggies...But all things must come to an end, and ALL the tops have cratered... The plastic gets brittle, and break. If they would offer replacement lids for a buck a piece, I would give them a rave review...

I purchased these mugs for use at work. I have used regular bowls to boil water, heat canned soups, and similar items. I was always concerned with burning myself from the porcelain or from splashing as I walked back to my desk. I later upgraded to a bowl with a small handle as that was all I could find at the time. The handle got so hot I could not hold it with my bare hands but, if water splashed from soup, it would not go directly to my hands.

Then I found these cups. They have a large handle which makes them easier and safer to hold. This is a big improvement to me. The sides of the mug are virtually straight so, as I walk there is no "sloshing" of liquid contents. The rubber cover vents well and keeps any "pops" from making a mess in the company microwave. This also serves to contain the contents when I walk briskly since there is no way to splash or slosh the contents out. The cover also serves to contain the heat a little if I am interrupted while eating or, I put some Ramen noodles in it to rest and soften up.

The only complaints I have are relatively minor. The first is the lack of thermal mass. This may be a feature to some people in that it allows very hot things to cool faster but, when placed on a cool desktop in a gentle breeze from the air conditioner it will cool off too quickly for my personal preference. The other issue is the price. At ~$6 a piece and selling individually, they seem a little too expensive for what they are. I should note that this has not prevented me from buying some more of them though ;-)

For my use at work in an office, the white exterior looks professional and cleans easily. The straight sides with cover keep the mess to a very minimum. Finally, the lip on the mug lets me "drink" the last bits of soup or noodles without dribbling or looking silly. In a pinch, it will work as an extra large coffee cup as well. Overall, this a very good product for my use in the office or at the company microwave.

I buy a lot of soup when it hits $1 a can at the market. It makes a good, cheap lunch. I disliked having to waste paper towels as covers when heating. Many times they even flop into the soup. This was the ideal answer. The lid keeps the soup from splattering into the microwave and it saves you from having a soggy paper towel to dispose of. I've had some liquid come out of the hole, but no splatter messes. It's the best soup bowl out there and it heats more evenly than other containers. It also cleans easier than other containers. It'll easily hold a big 19 oz. can of soup. I highly recommend it.

I use this mug a lot for chicken noodle and other soups as well as salads. Its easy to clean up and to handle. I like having the lid with the pop top so its doesn't make a mess in the microwave. I fits easily in the tote bag when commuting to work. I highly recommend it!!!

Nice mug. However, if you have arthritis the lid is not the easiest to work with.

This is a great product. It's of the same high quality you expect with Corning and it's sized just right for heating a whole can of soup in the microwave. Now my kids can drink their Chicken'n'Stars and not make such a mess.

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for lunch at work!, October 11, 2007
This review is from: CorningWare 1035985 French White 20-Ounce Mug (Kitchen)
I love these things. My only minor gripe is that the lid doesn't quite seal well enough that liquid won't leak if the container tips over in your bag, but it hasn't really been a problem. I take my lunch to work and these are terrific. They are big enough for a meal's-worth of soup with room to stir while you reheat it; I love the vented lids; I love the handle.

Actually, the newer ones I've gotten seal much better, so never mind about that. However, they can be a little tough to get off if you have problems with your hands. But they do seal very well. I assume the lids won't last forever because plastic and rubber never do, but I've been using these for several years now and, so far, so good; the lids have held up fine.

A whole can of prepared soup fits in this mug. You can warm it up in the microwave, carry it back to your desk (at the office) without sloshing it all around because of the handy stay-cool handle and the cover. The cover also makes it very easy to store leftovers directly in the refrigerator. This is a must for having a convenient nice, warm meal away from home.
