4.0 out of 5 stars Nice cooking piece and serving
It's great to cook and serve in one dish. We even store the leftovers right in the casserole. Just remember to tell the kids it's hot when it comes out of the oven. Dishwasher safe.

3.0 out of 5 stars No handles
Very good, durable, nice-looking product but no handles - very slippery to get out of the oven.

4.0 out of 5 stars Casserole Dish an important part of the kitchen, August 10, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: CorningWare 2-1/2-Quart Oval Casserole Dish with Glass Lid (Kitchen)
My wife wanted a large casserole dish to add to her kitchen cooking supplies. This CorningWare 2-1/2 Quart oval dish works perfect for her needs. Often, when you have guests coming, or are preparing food for a large group, you want prepare the food ahead of time - then just warm it at the last minute for serving. A casserole dish works great in many of these type of situations. Just stick it in the oven, and go about your other duties - the food will be ready when you are. Also, we've discovered that rice has a completely different texture when "baked" in a casserole dish in the oven as opposed to using a rice cooker or the boiling water method.

One note of caution on this dish - it does not have handles or a large lip so handling it when hot out of the oven can be a problem. Also, the glass lid is not very secure on the top. Still, I recommend this for any who are interested in purchasing a casserole dish.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not your Grandmother's CorningWare, August 28, 2009
This review is from: CorningWare 2-1/2-Quart Oval Casserole Dish with Glass Lid (Kitchen)
Once upon a time CorningWare was a name you could trust. Their unique pyroceramic glass cookware was almost indestructible, being devised from materials used for the nose cones of ballistic missiles. It was true "Space Age Technology" that could go directly from the stovetop into the refrigerator with nary a crack. A single CorningWare dish was said to have a lifespan of 1,000 years.

This was seen as a problem when the CorningWare brand was bought by World Kitchens Incorporated in 2001. They didn't want to sell you a dish every 1,000 years, they wanted the dishes to break so you would have to buy new ones. And so the pyroceramic formula was discontinued, and regular white-glazed stoneware was sold under the CorningWare brand.

Which is what we have here. This "CorningWare 2.5-qt. Oval Casserole with Lid - French White" is a fine, serviceable casserole dish that will bake up some tasty things in your oven. It has a classic design, and does just what it is supposed to do. No real complaints in that department. If all you are looking for is an inexpensive, temporary casserole dish, then this will fit the bill.

It just isn't really CorningWare. This casserole dish is designed to break, and it will eventually. Try and use it on your stovetop, or the extreme temperature changes that have become the hallmark of the brand, and it will shatter. Something to be aware of if you are buying this for the brand.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very nice casserole dish, February 8, 2007
This review is from: CorningWare 2-1/2-Quart Oval Casserole Dish with Glass Lid (Kitchen)
What can you say about a casserole dish? Well, this one is classically designed, well proportioned, and easy to clean. I reach for this dish a LOT when making casseroles, side dishes, and even roasting small chickens. The only peeve I have about this item is that the bottom is rough, not smooth, which means I have to be extra careful setting it on my glass-top range.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not the real McCoy, January 5, 2008

This review is from: CorningWare 2-1/2-Quart Oval Casserole Dish with Glass Lid (Kitchen)
When I ordered this, I thought it was CorningWare. NOT. It is stoneware. A world of difference...stoneware is heavier and susceptible to temperature shock breakage. This may be made by "CorningWare" but it is not the original CorningWare ceramic; which, it turns out, is no longer available. The casserole is a nice size, but not the real McCoy.

The dish is of good quality, although the bottom of the dish is rough and can scratch counter tops. The one I received is made in China.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not up to corning standard, March 19, 2007
This review is from: CorningWare 2-1/2-Quart Oval Casserole Dish with Glass Lid (Kitchen)
This product was smaller than I had antisipated and the lid doesn't fit as securely as other's I have. One thing I don't like about it is there are no type of handles and makes it very difficult and dangerous when removing from the oven when it is extremely hot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Versatile bake/cookware!, November 17, 2004

I have owned and used the 2 1/2 quart oval casserole for over 15 years and it continues to be one of the most useful items in my kitchen. It can be baked or microwaved...brought to the table and then used to store any leftover in the fridge! I love mine so much that the one bought today is for my daughter's first kitchen!

Very nice size and can be used for serving or storing with the plastic lid. I recommend if you order this that you also order the plastic lid it makes it so convenient to go from the oven to the fridge.
