Plastic lid did not fit,

This review is from: CorningWare French White Pop-Ins 16-Ounce Round Dish with Plastic Cover (Kitchen)
I actually bought a set of 2 CorningWare dishes with lids and plastic covers. Unfortunately, the plastic covers were too small for both of the dishes. With a lot of effort - we were able to get one of the lids to fit, but there is no hope with the other one. It's unfortunate, because I thought the lids would come in handy for storing leftovers. Aside from the problem with the plastic lids - Corningware has continued to provide good quality dishware.

I have old set of these 16 oz dishes with the vented covers. LOVE EM! I bought these to suppliment the set despite not having the vented lids. Not only aren't the lids interchangable, but the lids with this set does not even fit right. Some too tight, others flimsy lose. hmmmmm. First set, made in the USA and the new ones China.I will pay better attention in the future. I will buy American or do without. They'll get the message one day.

I read another review of this that said the lid didn't fit. I suppose it would if you had the strength to make it fit, which I do not, but I didn't buy this for the lid. I bought it for the dish. I love CorningWare and I really love the French White pattern. One of my other CorningWare dishes came with a plastic lid and in 20 years I haven't used it once. For my CorningWare French White dishes I just put a plate on the top, bottom down, when I want to microwave or store it in the 'frig. So, buy the dish and throw the lid away. The price is decent even without the lid.

Great for baking small cakes...,
This review is from: CorningWare French White Pop-Ins 16-Ounce Round Dish with Plastic Cover (Kitchen)
If you love cooking cakes just for two and have the Small-Batch Baking: When Just Enough for 1 or 2. . . Is Just Enough! cookbook you may want to use these round dishes when you make the small cakes. The recipe calls for cans to be used but many people objected to this idea. So instead I just cut round pieces of parchment and put them in the bottom of these dishes. Then I sprayed PAM baking spray all over so nothing would stick. The cakes I made came out perfect. They are white chocolate cakes with a white chocolate icing. YUM. I like that now I can bake just for two and have no leftovers. These dishes work great and I can think of many more uses for them because they are also microwave safe. You should not however use them under a broiler or on top of the stove. I first asked for French White Corningware for my wedding presents and those dishes are still very useful sixteen years later. These are high quality dishes that will last you a long time - unless you drop them! ~The Rebecca Review P.S. I used two of these baking dishes to make a miniature chocolate cake. How cute! Love how nothing sticks!

Last summer I decided that I needed more of a set of older Corning 16 ounce bowls that we've had for a long time. A little research showed that the exact bowl we have is out of production, and I could only get it by buying expensive replacements at replacements.com. Instead, I ordered "World Kitchen (Ekco) 1040735 Round Covered Dish 16 Oz. - French White (Pack of 4)", which is sold by a 3rd party seller. Those bowls are not an exact match to the bowls I already had, but they are very, very close. This week I realized that I needed two more in a hurry. I'm going to make individual souffles for a dinner party of 10. These are the perfect bowls to bake those souffles in, but I only had eight. These bowls are a perfect match for the set I bought earlier this year. They are a bit more expensive, but they were sold by Amazon, who delivered them in two days with no shipping charge, as we are Prime members. One of the two bowls did have a very minor color flaw beneath the lip ... a tiny, faint green spot. I doubt you'd notice it other than examining the bowl critically after having just received it. I was tempted to hold a star back from the flaw, but decided it was not serious enough to dock an entire star. These make great soup bowls, and if you make soup ahead you can go ahead and spoon servings into these bowls, close them up with the lids, and put them in the fridge for later. They are rated for either baking or freezing. I will be baking with them on New Year's Eve, but we won't ever have a need to use them as freezer storage. Their versatility and durability make them a great choice in a bowl, but I'd recommend going with the product I noted above unless you are in a time crunch as I was this week, since you'll save a bit per bowl that way.

We had a couple of these small dishes with covers as part of a set, and kept on using them up to store -- specifically freeze -- food like mac&cheese etc....so tried to find just a set of them with lids at a local store with no luck.... After finding them here, we ordered 4 more of them and now have plenty for storage and use. We really like that you can heat up tomato based sauces without staining the CorningWare -- however, the lids do stain, so we put plastic wrap under the lid for microwave -- even defrosting. Of course the stains don't affect the performance, but it's a bit of an eyesore/anoyance anyway. Overall, great product.
