Product Description

CorningWare French White 4-Quart Oval Roaster with Glass Cover

The original CorningWare bakeware which was first introduced in 1958, was made of a glass-ceramic material that could be used on the stove, in the oven and under the broiler. After World Kitchen acquired the brand in the late 1990's, CorningWare products were switched to ceramic stoneware production. Introduced later that year was the French White collection, which has been an all-time best seller among brides-to-be. The CorningWare stoneware collections can be used in conventional, convection and microwave ovens as well for storing food in the refrigerator and freezer. It washes easily by hand or in the dishwasher. Non-porous, stoneware won't absorb food odors and resists staining. And it's non-reactive so acid-based foods can be prepped or baked in it. CorningWare bakeware, a perfect blend of style and function, is designed to be used for convenient same-dish baking and serving, whether for casual or formal dining.

The recipe for a great dish starts, surprisingly, with a great dish! CorningWare French White bakeware proves that when it comes to food preparation, few things are more convenient than baking and serving in one dish. With its classic, fluted design, French White oven-to-table bakeware imparts a traditional elegance that is a perfect complement to any decor. Versatile yet stylish, CorningWare French White is simple...from start to finish!

  • Durable stoneware material designed for use in oven, microwave, refrigerator, and freezer.
  • CorningWare material resists chipping and cracking.
  • Non-porous surface does not absorb food odors, flavors, or stains.
  • The glass lid makes cooking, serving, and storing easy and convenient.
  • Limited 1-Year Warranty on CorningWare. Limited 2-Year Warranty on Pyrex Glass Covers.

CARE AND USE

Wash by hand or in automatic dishwasher. Load dishes to avoid bumping against other items during cycle. To remove gray or rust marks, clean with a non-abrasive cleanser. If scouring is necessary, use only plastic or nylon cleaning pads with non-abrasive cleansers. Do not allow stoneware dinnerware to soak/stand in water for an extended period of time. Applied heat after soaking may cause crazing.

CorningWare stoneware bakeware can be used for serving and reheating food. Some stoneware bakeware can be used in microwave, convection and pre-heated conventional oven. Some items may not be appropriate for specific uses. Review information on bottom of items prior to use.

WARRANTY

World Kitchen, LLC promise to replace any stoneware bakeware item with a manufacturing defect within one year from date of purchase. Accidental breakage from impact is not covered. Incidental and consequential damages are expressly excluded. Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental and consequential damages, so the foregoing limitation or exclusion may not apply to you. For this warranty to apply, the owner must follow the safety and usage instructions.

The original "French White" Corningware was made of Corning's famous pyroceramic glass, which could be used on the gas stove, put directly in the freezer, put under the broiler right from the freezer, and oh yes, also used in a microwave. And it was very unlikely to shatter if dropped. If you pounded on it with a hammer and nail you might have gotten it to break.

When World Kitchens bought the license from Corning, they decided to halt production of a line of cookware that would take anything and last forever, and dupe customers, especially brides, into thinking the stoneware "French White" was the same thing as the wonderful French White pyroceramic cookware previously available to their mothers and sisters.

The pattern is very attractive and can be used with any decor, and they do offer many sizes, but this stuff is not, repeat, really not, what people mean when they say "Corningware."

Le Creuset can do most of the above mentioned, but it being metal you cannot use it in the microwave. Stoneware cannot go on top of the stove, and repeated trips from the freezer to the oven will eventually cause it to craze and crack. And stoneware will also chip, and break if dropped, etc. Pyrex glassware cannot go on the gas stove although you can take it from the freezer to the oven, and also microwave it.

The only product which could do anything was pyroceramic, and World Kitchens has chosen to remove it from the market because it is "too good."

They have recently brought back a few of the old square shapes, with the Cornflower, or plain white, calling it "vintage," but the French White shape is not making a reappearance yet. If you want it, email them and ask for it!

Meanwhile, don't buy this stuff. Get Le Creuset for cooking and roasting (yes it is expensive but it lasts forever and cooks beautifully), and reheat things in Pyrex in the microwave.

I have real corning ware from 40years ago. It still is in perfect shape. I bought this item because it was a useful size. It cracked within four months. I thought perhaps it was a fluke and made the mistake of ordering another. That one cracked in three months. Never again. These made in China pots are total junk.

This is a good-sized dish that cooks food very well. However, it is REALLY REALLY hard to clean! Especially the lid. You have to scrub the heck out of the thing!

We had received one of these as part of a set about four years ago. My wife dropped and broke that one a week ago, and within 30 minutes of cleaning up the mess, we had ordered this replacement--that's how much we like it. We regularly double recipes, and this is the perfect size to double casseroles. My only gripe is that there's not a plastic cover for it like the other (smaller) CorningWare dishes in this series.

You can't go wrong with CorningWare. Dishwasher safe, oven safe, freezer safe and microwave safe. I have several other pieces of CorningWare, but I wanted the roaster - it is perfect for whole hams, smaller turkerys, chicken - etc. Cooks beautifully, doesn't stain - and you don't need additional serving pieces, just bake and serve in the same dish. Plus, the French White line is a crisp white and is heavier than some of their other styles.

First one arrived with pits in the inside finish, it was replaced quickly and easily at no charge. Replacement came broken in four pieces with no lid, very poor packing. Third replacement arrived intact with lid at no charge, however the inside finish has imperfections. Quality control sucks!!!!

Mom loves the baking dish. She likes the clear lid so she can see if the food is done and loves the size of the dish also.

I agree with other ratings and comments that have been posted....
If this were a true CorningWare...i wouldn't have the complaints I do. This is StoneWare under the old CorningWare label. This product crazes, cracks and is difficult to keep clean. It's finish is not as smooth/non-porous as the original CorningWare...so it is also more difficult to clean after use. Very disappointed... I will not replace my CRACKED AND CRAZED CorningWare/StoneWare 4qt. Covered Oval Roaster. At least not with another CorningWare product...PERIOD.
