3.0 out of 5 stars Casserole Dish
I was looking for a covered glass cooking dish that was not heavy. The dish is lighter than the old Corning Ware, but the lid is still pretty heavy. It has a plastic lid as well, and that is really hard to get on. I am a little disappointed but I will use it.

Not only is the new corning ware apealing to the eye it is versatile. It blends in to whatever dish pattern or table cloth you are using. I bought a set for my Mom who is 85 yrs old. The new corning ware is much lighter in weight and makes it easier for her to handle and carry the dish. At first glance it does not look like this product will be as sturdy as the older version but after dropping it (accidently) and having it ding into other pots and pans I was happy to see it is stronger than it looks. So far nothing has left a staining mark ; I also like the extending edges that blend well with the design and make it easier to keep a handle on a filled dish. I gave this 5 stars because the product is appealing visually; it is sturdy; handles well and washes beautifully ; looks great in the fridge and the price is very reasonable.

Never thought I would write a review on CorningWare!
But this is not Your Mothers CorningWare with the silly blue flower.

Its lite weight (love it), All white but more modern looking, has side handles, that do not stick way out, a Lid with a wide handle on top, and even a great Plastic cover for the Frig.
The plastic cover is not cheesy, and fits snug.

I was surprised by the lite weight of this, but Don't let the lighter weight stop anyone from buying this CorningWare.
Its indestructible, unless you take a hammer to it, and then I have my doubts!
That said, I have not dropped it, or smashed it into anything.

I have had other sizes of 2 1/2 qt,casseroles but they are bigger on the outside part, and awkward to fit in the microwave, but not this one. Its very compact, and takes up less space to store also.
Has allot of flat wide space on the inside bottom, with rounded up sides, which makes for
easy washing, or put in the dishwasher.
The inside is allot bigger then I expected.

I cut up in chunks about 3 lbs.or more of unpeeled red potatoes, tossed with Olive oil,pad of butter, allot of Garlic, little crushed rosemary, put this in the micro with the lid to soften the potatoes, then roasted them in the oven at 400 degrees, to get them crisp.
This cleaned up like a charm, and the potatoes where great.
I also used this to micro frozen veggies.
I'm sure I will find other uses for this.

I Don't understand how anyone could give this a 3 star cause the lid is a little heavy!!
Compared to the heavier corningware, there is still no comparason to the weight.
After using this, I do not want to buy anything heavier. Why?

Going to buy the 1 1/2 Quart.

You can cook and serve in this. It looks nice, although not fancy.

If I could give this 10 stars I would..

This very light weight casserole dish seems like it would break as soon as you touch it, but it seems to take all the punishment that I deal it. Easy to use, easy to clean and does not need a forklift to get it out of the cabinet and into the oven. If I had room I would get more. The plastic lid is a nice add on, but yet have seen a need for it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for Baking But Handling & Storage challenges, February 15, 2011

I have owned and enjoyed Corelle dishes for many years. The concept of a lighter casserole dish is very appealing now that I have developed joint problems. I have owned 2 sizes of the Simply Lite casserole dishes for a couple of months. For cooking, the dishes perform to the high quality I expected from past experience with Corelle. However, the LIDs are a problem.

I found the plastic lids nearly impossible to apply and remove, and the struggle can splash cooking liquids, making a mess. The very rounded corners, also fail to give a spot to leverage a better grip for struggling with the lid. Ironically, the light weight works against me here. If there is a trick to this, please post it.

The glass lids fit nicely into the dish, in an upside down position for storage in the cabinet, but with the handle up, as you would use it in the 'fridge, the lid is not very secure. This is a problem for my visually-impaired family member, because if you bump it, the lid rattles around, and is difficult to pick up, especially with one hand.

Finally, the handles are too small to get a good grip--and I have small hands. Maybe it would be fine for a younger person without impairments, but my attraction to the product was because it was lightweight, and I was expecting that to solve a problem for us, but instead it has created additional ones. I really wanted to love this, but I am disappointed.

2.0 out of 5 stars The plastic lid just doesn't fit, June 30, 2011
This review is from: CorningWare SimplyLite 2-1/2-Quart Casserole with Glass and Plastic Lids (Kitchen)
My husband and I received this off of our wedding registry and spent a good amount of time trying to get the plastic lid on with no luck. I can't even imagine trying to get it on if the dish were hot or full of food! We returned it immediately. Disappointed.

I wish I got the whole set instead of some of the heavy ceramic baking dishes I bought to complement my new microwave/convection oven. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Arthritis or Carpal Tunnel, September 6, 2010

This review is from: CorningWare SimplyLite 2-1/2-Quart Casserole with Glass and Plastic Lids (Kitchen)
I purchased this casserole for my sister to replace the older 2.5 qt. blue cornflower casserole that she has. My sister has rheumatoid arthritis and lifting the filled casserole into and out of the over put a strain on her hands. The dimension of this version of the casserole are a bit different, but the lighter weight allows an added bit of independence for anyone who suffers from any form of arthritis or carpal tunnel syndrome. The dual lids are an added bonus. The glass lid is great for keeping the food warm on the stove top or table. The platic lid is clear and is perfect for allowing you to see what is inside when storing food in the refrigerator. My sister is very happy with this SimplyLite CorningWare casserole and will be purchasing other SimplyLite products to replace heavier bakeware.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it except the lid warps over time, August 9, 2011
This review is from: CorningWare SimplyLite 2-1/2-Quart Casserole with Glass and Plastic Lids (Kitchen)
I really love this product. My one complaint is that the plastic lid warped for me so it rather challenging to put on. I have used the plastic lid in the freezer and microwave which may have contributed.

The square shape of this dish really helps for fitting it into a full freezer or fridge. The flat plastic lid helps in this respect as well. I love the weight which is much lighter than other casserole dishes since I have carpal tunnel. I do not have a problem getting the plastic lid off. Sticky casserole debris almost always comes off in the dishwasher without any presoaking. The size is perfect for our 4 person family and leftovers go straight in the fridge with the plastic lid on top. No extra storage containers needed. I really love this casserole dish and would highly recommend it!
