I was pleasantly surprised when I lifted this item out of its shipping carton. It really is significantly lighter than other glass cooking dishes of the same size. The tight-fitting lid is also quite light making this an easy-to-use duo for most people. The only quibble I'd have with it is that the lid is, initially at least, almost too tight-fitting. I had trouble removing it.

Both dish and lid clean up easily. Both went through the dishwasher with no problems, so no fear that it's some sort of delicate item. However, the dish cannot be used under a broiler or on a stove top.

I love the look of the unit. It's very clean and elegant, and even the lid design contributes to the over-all sophisticated appearance. This one looks like a real winner.

ETA: I've had this for a year now, and I have to report that I use it all the time. Really. I think I use it at least once a week. It's great for roasting small cuts of meat, roasting veggies, heating up leftovers and even small baking projects. It joins my Le Creuset French oven as an indispensable part of my kitchen gear. It's that good.

This is an excellent baking dish-- perfect for the oven or the microwave. The dish is remarkably lightweight-- it feels like sturdy plastic, yet can go right in the oven. I've only used it at 350 degrees and I'm not sure if one can actually broil in it because it did not come with any instructions at all. My pan came in the amazon carton wrapped in bubblewrap without any Corningware information and without a Corningware box. Had I received some material on my new baking pan, I would have given it 5 stars.

It would have been easy for Corningware to make the lid out of the same ovenproof material as they made the pan. However, they inexplicably decided to make the lid out of non-ovenproof plastic. Truthfully, I couldn't decide if the lid was just plastic or a clear version of this same ovenproof material. Only now did I see that the Amazon description lists it as plastic.

The real difference here is that the pan is so incredibly light-- like a metal pan, yet it cleans very very easily-- like glass. Food just doesn't stick on it as it sticks onto metal.

When the description said light I figured possibly a drop lighter than glass, basically I was still expecting something heavy. When this dish arrived, I could not have been more thrilled and used it that evening. Given I have a bad back as well as arthritis in both my hands and wrists, the days of baking/cooking with a heavy glass dish are long gone for me. I just cannot get over how light this one is, truly amazing! As one other reviewer noted, this dish did not come with insrutctions in regard to the lid so I was unsure if it could go in the oven so I opted not to put it in for fear of it melting. I baked an apple crip in this for my son's school and have to say not only did it come out INCREDIBLE but cleaning this dish was nothing short of a breeze. If since used it several more times all with the same outcome. The lid although not oven proof is extremely useful, especially where leftovers are concerned or just to keep a dish warm. Without reservation, BUY THIS NOW - you will be thrilled with it!!

When I saw first saw the "SimplyLite" CorningWare line in a department store, I picked up a piece to look at it. After feeling the lightness of the dish, I decided CorningWare had lost it's good reputation with me; this stuff must be plastic! Why would anyone want to buy this? But, a few weeks later,needing a baking dish with a good tight lid on it for refrigerating foods and leftovers that tend to smell up the refrigerator, I decided to give it a try. WOW! Have I been pleasantly surprised and pleased with everything about this dish. Excellent size and shape, very versatile, and cleans up effortlessly. As for the difficulty of using the tightly fitting lid that some users mentioned, some of us want it tight for the very reason that we do not want the tuna casserole or turkey and dressing smells mingling with other items in the refrigerator. It's tight but not impossible or even all that difficult to remove if you place your dish on the counter to work with it. The dish looks nice on the table, and it's so light that it's easy to handle when full. Great invention, CorningWare. I highly recommend the new SimplyLite line of Corningware; I'm now a believer.

This little item I have used for numerous things in a microwave and a convection oven.
Many many advantages. Lightweight, size is easy to store, cleans up well by hand or in the dishwasher (I have always done the lid by hand), nice enough to go from oven to table then put the lid on and store in the frig.
You really can't beat this item. Very versatile, attractive, lightweight, easy to store. I highly recommend to any amatuer or professional cook.... and all those in between.

Feels like the real thing to me! Very nice - stylish - with a seal tight lid! My only complaint if I really had to stretch to find one would be that the lid is a bit TOO tight. We had a few of us trying to get it off! It did loosen up a smidge after using it a few times. I love it and will certainly look forward to purchasing another size and make a set!

This is a terrific enhancement to current bakeware - a 50%-lighter baking dish that survives microwave as well as conventional and convention ovens. Now that I have made both vegetarian lasagna and a Brown Betty in it, I can safely assert that it bakes as well as any other Corningware piece I've ever owned. What's nice is that it's almost as light as Tupperware, so it makes transporting dishes to potlucks and such a lot easier than in the past. I may have to get the three-quart version and give away my clunky, oil-greased glassware.

This is a nice sized lighter weight baking dish. I accidentally dropped it and it did not break, so it seems to have the same durability as regular CorningWare. It cleaned easily in the dishwasher and did not stain w/ pasta sauce. The plastic lid fits very securely. It would be nice if they would add a glass lid to bake with in the oven. If you like CorningWare, yet desire lighter weight, this is the product to buy. When the other sizes are on a gold box special I will get other pieces and donate my older CorningWare to charity.

This baking dish is great! It's a nice change from the heavier dishes of the past. Clean up is a breeze. And the fact that it has it's own cover is a nice extra addition. I had to hide it from my Mom when she came over. I will definitely be purchasing more! You Can't Go Wrong w/Corning Ware.

I will say, at first, I thought "what's the big deal" regarding the weight of this baking dish. That was until I actually held it in my hand and FELT the difference. It's amazing really. At first, I would have thought it was plastic, that is how light it feels. It's not plastic, it's just great CorningWare on the Light side.

Using the dish was great - baking in it was easy, no uneven spots and clean-up was simple. The plastic lid is a tight fit, perfect for storing.

Most importantly though, I think this item and the whole CorningWare "SimplyLite" product line would be great for people with hand strength issues, be it arthritis or just smaller hands.

Big thumbs up on this dish - it's CorningWare all the way, and the weight improvement is nothing but positive. I'll be getting additional SimplyLite items whenever I need more cookware.
