CorningWare from Corning, New York, USA.,
By Joseph Ekaitis "author of Collinsfort Village" (Southern California) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: CorningWare SimplyLite 3-Quart Oblong Baking Dish with Plastic Lid (Kitchen)
If you ask World Kitchen via email, they'll claim "MADE IN USA" is insignificant to American consumers who welcomed imported CorningWare stoneware with open arms and consider it an improvement over the dear departed American-made Pyroceram.
Why, then, is "MADE IN USA" one of the major selling points of CorningWare's new SimplyLite lineup? Because it DOES matter and because CorningWare isn't just a brand. It's the very reason to buy the stuff as the superior alternative to stoneware. SimplyLite recaptures CorningWare's heritage of innovation. It's made in Corning, New York from Vitrelle, the same material as Corelle LivingWare dishes. I bought this oblong baker at Target and handed it to my wife who immediately commented "What is this, plastic?" It really is that light in weight, but it'll do anything glass will do and a few things stoneware can't. Bake in it, freeze in it, put away leftovers in it without any worries about staining or reactions from acidic foods like tomato sauce. When you're through, throw it in the dishwasher. The only two places you can't use it are on the stove and under the broiler. The surface is unusually smooth because Vitrelle is a composite of milky white glass under a layer of clear glass. That's why even baked-on mac 'n' cheese slides right off. Should there be any leftovers, the see-through plastic lid snaps on and leaves the contents visible.

It's the lid,

We bought the Pyrex 6 piece set but rarely use the large pan because the lid is damn near impossible to remove. I am writing this review because my wife just got through screaming because her fingers were being pinched trying to remove the lid. We do use the other 2 pans and 2 glass lids. Cleanup is easy and bakes evenly. We will not buy another one until they redesigned the lid. If not for the lid I would have rated it a 5. Your food containers SHOULD NOT hurt you to use them. If I haven't been clear "It's the lid" that I rate it so low.

Corelle dish is perfect, lid is not,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: CorningWare SimplyLite 3-Quart Oblong Baking Dish with Plastic Lid (Kitchen)
I purchased this at a local grocery store when it was going out of business. I love Corelle because if anything sticks or bakes or (in my usual case) burns on, a little soaking makes clean up so easy. The LID on this though is almost impossible to take off! I'm surprised no one has said anything about this.

Great cookware, terrible, difficult lid,
By Kurzy Surfer (Michigan) - See all my reviews

The SimplyLite is very light, cooks great and cleans up beautifully, but the plastic lids on the larger pieces of cookware are very, very difficult to get off. In my opinion they are so bad that the company should re-design them and replace them for free. If you have any problems with your hands don't plan on using the lid at all. I have actually pinched my finger badly and once I had to shove a screwdriver under the edge to pry it off. I just cover it with tinfoil now.

Nice versatile baking dish,

I love using this baking dish. It's much lighter than my other pyrex baking dishes. Note: it is a bit smaller than a 19X13 dish, but for what I need it for, it's adequate. Also, the lid comes in handy when transporting food for potlucks, etc. Would highly recommend this product.

The lid is a huge problem,
This review is from: CorningWare SimplyLite 3-Quart Oblong Baking Dish with Plastic Lid (Kitchen)
I agree with all the positives about this product, but that lid!!! The plastic one. Absolutely useless. It's squashed and hurt both my and my fella's fingers (and his hands are much stronger than mine) so now we never use it--only use the glass lid. Might as well drop the price (since good storage is NOT a feature in real life). I refuse to believe that the Corningware Testers did anything close to a comprehensive test of this feature and am disappointed. When they come out with a newly-designed plastic lid, they should let anyone who has the current, badly designed one get a new one for free!

Light and works well,

We bought this for a very specific purpose. I have a sharp convection microwave oven which works great. It can use a mix which cooks the food both microwave and oven, alternating between the two. The tricky thing is finding cookware that fits in the oven, because it rotates a 9x13 is too big, and can stand up to both microwaving and baking for long bursts of time. Enter the simplylite. The size is perfect, the material holds up to blasts of both type of cooking, and the lite is a bonus because sometimes when the pan is full you can hear the gears straining to turn the tray on the sharp. Although I bought the simplylite simply for the microwave/convection oven, I am finding it my go to roasting pan for the regular oven. The weight is really nice and the cooking is even throughout. Cleanup is also a breeze, and it's dishwasher safe. The light weight is so much easier for me with my touch of arthritis in the hands and wrists. Everything I have roasted (chicken with veg, roast beef) or baked (cake, brownies) has come out beautifully. The instructions say you can use this for recipes calling for a 9 x 13, probably because of the depth, but for baking I've found I have to play with cooking times a bit. No big deal though, the weight, even cooking, and easy clean up make it worth figuring out timing. I haven't had issues opening the lid but I can see where it sort of sucks down and makes it a little harder to pull off. Overall a great product.

Dish is nice--but for me the plastic lid is difficult to remove,
This review is from: CorningWare SimplyLite 3-Quart Oblong Baking Dish with Plastic Lid (Kitchen)
In my experince and opinion this dish is great due to the lightness in weight of it. However, I am not rating it five stars because I feel that the plastic lid is way too difficult to remove once I put it on the dish.
