2.0 out of 5 stars poor blade quality, great customer service
After an hour of testing the cutter on 1" branches, the blade edges were bent/dull. I called customer support and they sent me a new set of blades for free, that was very nice!.. but what good is it if they only last an hour. It seems lkie the blades were not hardened, damaged on 1" limbs!?!? My 10yr old $28 Ace Hardware clippers are still as sharp as day one and have...

I purchased my first set of Corona loppers about 3 years ago from a farm supply store. I could not believe how much I was spending, but they looked like a high quality tool that should last me for years and I spent the money. Several members of my family live in wooded areas with long lanes back to our homes. About once a year it becomes necessary to trim back the brush and trees along these lanes. Together, we probably trim 1-1/2 miles of lanes. We need a tool that will perform.

The first year I had my Corona loppers, everyone was amazed at how easy they appeared to cut and wanted to try them. Last year after using my loppers for about a half hour, my wife gave me an ultimatum, either I get her a set of Corona's, or she was going to use mine or stay home. I ordered the second pair this summer and we have put them to the test. Her pair is as amazing as the first set. While the first set is showing some knicks and scars from three years of use, they still cut amazingly easy. I have honestly cut green Poplar limbs up to 3" with these loppers by taking multiple cuts, knocking out the chips between the cuts and then I cut through what is left. I have cut dead and dry Beech limbs up to 2". I keep expecting to bend the handles, but they are far stronger than I am. I have had to sharpen the blade a time or two, but there are many years of service left in them. When I need repair parts, any part of the loppers is available as a standard repair part from Corona. They are only a few mouse clicks away. I would recommend these loppers to anyone who needs to do a lot of cutting.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for most cutting jobs but not best for everything., June 18, 2004

I have had an anvil looper for a long time. The anvil looper has a gear mechanism that increases the leverage. It easily cut up to 2-inch branches with one slice. But the blade finally became dull and I could not find a replacement so I decided it was time to buy a new one. I had a difficult time deciding between an anvil or bypass looper. I decided on the bypass because it has 2 ?-inch cutting capacity and long 32-inch handles for leverage. They should have said 2 ?-inch capacity if you can cut it because you can't cut through a 2 or 2 ?-inch tree branch without attacking it several times from various angles. That makes cutting vary difficult. On smaller stuff it cuts great but then the long handles become awkward.

It is a good cutting tool for brush and small branches but next time, when I must buy another one, it will be an anvil.

If you need loppers and are balking at the price of these, consider the fact you will buy many of the other kind just to match the durability of these.

When I got these, I had gone through several pairs of both steel and wood handled ones. A friend of mine says these are exactly what they use at work... And he works in a golf-course. Talk about heavy duty.

The only concern I have is as duable as they look and feel, they may lead a person to abusing them.

Comparison shop and these will always be the winner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chainsaw Not Required!, June 19, 2003
This review is from: Corona Clipper Stratashear 32-Inch Professional Bypass Lopper with 2-1/2-Inch Cutting Capacity AL8260 (Lawn & Patio)
Gee whiz... occasionally, you find a piece of equipment that is truly well-made and worth the extra dollars it costs. Corona's loppers are super! I have 5 acres and along a fencerow I had a lot of willow trees coming up that had already grown to a couple of inches in diameter. They were a real pain to mow around, and I had grown to dread mowing that side of my lawn. One hour with the Corona lobbers in my hands, and they were all laid to waste! I had originally thought about cleaning this undergrowth up with a chain saw, but these lobbers are much faster and a lot easier to use to boot!

I'd had some miniature lobbers that I used to cut roses with. I'd always thought a lot of those mini-lobbers too, but had never paid attention to what brand they were. I knew that on occasion, I had pruned trees with them, which was well beyond their advertised or intended capacity, and they'd always done well. So... when I was hanging up my new giant Corona lobbers, I picked up the little ones I'd had for so long to see what brand they were... Corona also. These guys just make great tools!

I've cut some whompin big bushes and tree limbs with my new giant lobbers, and they've never given as much as a squeak.

Highly recommended -- a tool to keep!

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the money, July 16, 2003

Expensive, yes. But this is an efficient, tough tool.

Just spent many days clearing brush and trees. This tool is the best I have used. I have broken wooden handles on other loppers, struggled with others, and am completely satisfied with this 32 inch Corona. Also consider their hand clippers. The top of the line is fantastic.

I have used the AL 8260 for about an hour cutting green hard and softwood limbs and suckers and already the "hook" edge has deformed and I have had to tighten the blade. While the Amazon and Corona web sites lists the lopper with a 2 ˝" cutting capacity the literature that came with it claims a 2" capacity . I had a hard time cutting 1" green hardwood; 2"+ would be impossible. Don't waste your money on these loppers!!

I returned this lopper to Amazon because it was advertised as made in the USA and when I got it it was made in Mexico. That was over a month ago and the Amazon ad still says Made in USA. Maybe they got a different shipment or something. I didn't want to rate the lopper having never used it but they made me do it so I gave it 3 stars for looking like a quality lopper. I'm just trying to buy USA made stuff.

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy cheap loppers, September 14, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Corona Clipper Stratashear 32-Inch Professional Bypass Lopper with 2-1/2-Inch Cutting Capacity AL8260 (Lawn & Patio)
In my experience, you get what you pay for with bypass loppers of all brands. I've bought and used multiple different pairs of bypass loppers in the $20 - $35 dollar range and they all end up being junk. Either the blade chips or a burr forms on the cutting edge or a gap forms between the anvil and blade or the handles come apart or the shock bumpers get deformed. They just simply don't hold up to reasonable use. That is why it is worth paying $50 or $60 dollars for a better quality set. They're more expensive, but they're worth 4 pairs of cheaper ones.

For those who are unhappy with performance of loppers it is worth remembering/knowing that there are loppers for different jobs. If you are cutting dead wood, use anvil loppers. Feel free to get the kind that have compound levers or whatever, since there isn't any worry of crushing living tissue on the plant. However, if you are cutting relatively small live wood (somewhere around less than 1 inch diameter), use the bypass loppers. I don't know why they advertise these things as 2+ inch cutting capacity. If you are wanting to cut larger wood, then use a small folding hand-saw. Applying the necessary force to cut larger live growth is just going to mangle the branch collar or branch-bark union.

The handles are longer than most, probably to generate the force for the advertised 2+ inch cutting, and are a bit awkward. The rubber hand grips aren't going to come loose anytime soon though, which is nice. The blade and anvil are thicker metal than homeowner varieties, which helps keep them true and undamaged by any larger pruning you may do. These are a quality constructed set of loppers, make no mistake about it. I'm very happy with my pair.

I have used Corona products for years, after all my name is Lopez. In all fairness this cutter is as good as it gets. Plenty of capacity with some of the longest handles on the market. Cutting anything larger than this looper can handle should be done with a saw.
