Product Description

Product Description

The Corona Clipper 12-foot compound-action tree pruner is a versatile tool that gives you the combined benefits of a saw and bypass pruner for fast, easy pruning; the telescoping fiberglass pole adjusts to precisely the right length for small, medium or larger trees. Pass-thru shearing action drives a blade sharpened on both sides directly through the center of the hook, giving you more even cutting power and resisting the binding common with side-mounted blades. The fully heat-treated, coated cutlery steel blade easily prunes branches up to 1 inch in diameter, while the 13-inch conventional saw blade can be used to remove larger limbs. The pruning head is made of die cast zinc alloy for added durability, and the pruner features a compound-action pulley system that increases your leverage and triples your cutting power. The strong, lightweight fiberglass pole telescopes to 12 feet with an infinitely adjustable twist-lock extender and non-pinching twistlock adjustment. The unique internal stop prevents the inner pole from separating from the outer pole. The pole features a comfortable non-slip 24-inch cushioned grip to relieve hand and muscle stress.

Easy to use and very well made.

They told me that the lifetime warranty is only good for initial problems right after purchase- this not what it says on the packaging or the website.

The pole extension slips when in use, cannot tighten further.

I thought about purchasing this item through ... but found it for less than the ... price listed at the time of this review.
None the less, this product does a pretty good job at cutting and extending to lengths that reach most of the limbs of a reasonably sized tree found in yards of most residences.
There were two things that stood out as far as dealing with this item. The minor of these is that the saw blade that is attached to the working end of this pole seems a bit too flexible. Would have been nice if it was made of sturdier metal. It was good however once you get a start in the cutting of the tree limb! Nice and sharp!
The second, more troublesome aspect, was that the screw-down, that keeps the pole from extending (more than your desired length) would sometimes allow the pole to slip through during the cutting of a limb. Hopefully, with use, this will eventually no longer occur.
Other than that, the foam grip area on the lower portion of the pole makes for a really great grip when in use.
And as far as the pruning blade goes; it was very easy to trim small branches!
While purchasing this item I saw others that had plastic/nylon parts. This one has metal (where the saw and prunining mechanism are attached).
Overall, I would say this is a good product to take care of most of your tree branch cutting needs.

The metal strips out that a screw that holds the balde turns into. The blade and tool can then not be used and the tool becomes useless. This occured with below normal home use.

I purchased this pruner after my 22 years with my old pruner. We have a lot of trees, & the pruner gets used 4 to 5 times a year. This pruner constantly plugs, so I have to manually open the jaws. The screw holding the saw in place stripped & I cannot use the saw now. A very poor pruner for the price.. The handle is lightweight, so I now have an extension for my apple picker. Still looking for a new pruner.

The pole extension slips when in use, cannot tighten further. When I use it on the second time, the die cast alloy snapped while using the clipper portion on a 3/4 inch branch. The whole thing is now useless.

I absolutely love this product. I have a high Crepe Myrtle Tree that grows so tall and wide and brushes up against my roof. I'm relatively short, and this pole does the trick. It is very easy to handle and trim, ALL BY MYSELF :)

The first thing that went wrong was the plastic screw down mechanism that tightens down the upper pole to keep the pole extension secure- it cracked after normal use. Next, the pruning blade started sticking into the cutting head element and could only be retracted by bringing the pole back down to ground level and pulling it with two hands - no doubt poor quality cast material or a slight warping of the blade from the normal stress of cutting. The final insult is that the pull rope is starting to fray where it runs through the pulley wheel at the top of the pruner. Perhaps, I could live with all this if the saw blade wasn't so flexible and continues to get stuck in green limbs!

Update: I just got off the phone with Corona. I explained the pole pruner was slowly falling apart and was no longer a safe efficient tool I asked them to stand by the product as it has a lifetime warranty. They told me that the lifetime warranty is only good for initial problems right after purchase- this not what it says on the packaging or the website. What a scam! I guess this should not surprise me since I notice that their products are made in China and Mexico- countries that are infamous for their corruption, unsafe working conditions, and dishonest manufacturing facilities that cut corners on material specs and tolerances, as well as other safety issues. Shame on you if you are a member of a labor union and you endorse, buy or use Corona products!

I've had this saw for years. I actually bought a new one because I left mine at a job site, but then someone returned it.
It's a great saw for the money. I looked at the Fiskars at Home Depot and they are really flimsy looking and only about $10 less. I haven't had the problem that others have had with soft metal at the tip, but it is a casting, so that makes some sense. The only complaint I have is that the rope has a fair bit of stretch to it. It's not a big deal and it may be intentional.

The tooth set and curve of the saw are really great.
