Grade 5-8. The life of the painter, presented in an alphabetical format. The headings are in French, e.g., Bon voyage, colisee, and it is difficult to follow the presentation without some prior knowledge of French art and style. While the brief text is comprehensive in scope, some of the subject's thoughts and feelings appear fictionalized. No source notes are appended. The book's appeal lies in the full-color reproductions of Corot's work. The medium is not mentioned, but a list in the back of the book indicates whether each piece of art is a painting or drawing and whether it is available to the public or is from a private collection. The table of contents features each of the illustrations in miniature with the main heading under it and an English translation; thus the alphabet is presented on the first two pages. This opening makes a nice overview of the artist's work. However, while the book may serve as an introduction to the artist, it falls short as both an alphabet book and as a biography.?Jane Claes, T. The life of French painter Corot is arranged in an unusual alphabetical sequence of words which document key elements of his life and art. This is recommended for youngsters with a command of reading, a basic interest in art, and the ability to use an A-Z format to gain basic facts about the painter's importance. -- Midwest Book Review
