4.0 out of 5 stars Insightful!, April 11, 2001
This review is from: Corporate Celebration Play, Purpose, and Profit at Work (Hardcover)
This elegantly produced book is authoritatively and beautifully written. It is not - repeat not - a shallow, silly, piece of self-help nonsense. Backed by plenty of research and the professional and academic expertise of its authors, Terrence E. Deal & M.K. Key, the book takes a serious look at the role celebration plays in the success of corporations and other organizations. It also shows you how to plan and implement such events. We [...] recommend this book to leaders and managers of organizations and others interested in the profitable role of celebration in corporate and organizational culture. Now, go party.

4.0 out of 5 stars Seriously, Work Can Be Fun and Games, September 4, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Corporate Celebration Play, Purpose, and Profit at Work (Hardcover)
Celebrations can be very serious business. Even a water balloon flight or the wearing of goofy hats can play a vital role in the rituals and ceremonies of people at work. In the corporate world, celebration can be spontaneous or it can be meticulously planned. I've seen one company spend truckloads of money treating high-performing employees to an extravagant week at Disney World. And I've seen another company get just as much motivation and appreciation mileage out of a Friday afternoon barbeque in the office.

This book, written by two experts in organizational culture, discusses several different types of celebration. In the process, it underscores the important role that celebration can plan in leadership, purpose, team building, and employee engagement.
