4.0 out of 5 stars Good enough
I needed this for a corporate finance course at Wayne State. The book seemed decent to me. Easy enough to read for a textbook. Yes, it's dry and not a particularly fun read but what do you expect, it's a finance textbook! I learned some important concepts. 2.0 out of 5 stars you probably don't have an option...
Most likely, if you're looking at this book, it is for a class and it doesn't really matter what anyone other than your prof or division chair thinks. Otherwise, don't get this book. Its approach is completely obtuse and makes most formulas and concepts almost incomprehensible.

1.0 out of 5 stars Required book for Finance class, August 21, 2008
This review is from: Corporate Finance, 8th Edition (Hardcover)
I'm only 3 chapters deep but can already tell this will be one of those 'poor explanation' books we've all had in college. It definately helps to have some accounting knowledge before reading this text. Overall, the examples are poor, and.... just thinking about how it was written makes me want to fall asleep!

4.0 out of 5 stars For a textbook, it's not bad., October 13, 2010
For a textbook, it's not bad. The examples are clear, the chapter progression is logical, and enough of the equations are explained that you don't feel too lost too much of the time. You'd never sit down with this book and a cup of tea on a rainy afternoon, but it gets the job done.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the paper it's printed on, September 26, 2010
This is one of the worst textbooks I've ever had on any subject. If you're a professor and have selected this book, you either don't want your students to learn this material, or you are an idiot. Or both. This book is exceptionally bad. It's full of problems that require concepts that are either poorly explained in the book or not covered at all. If you're using this book, prepare to spend your time Google searching for better explanations to the concepts you want to learn.

3.0 out of 5 stars Use caution - many versions available, September 26, 2011

Book is a high quality textbook in build and design, in most chapters (up through 8) it is pretty thorough but relies heavily on formulas, not on practical knowledge. Our prof also assigned the online CONNECT package... be warned... there are many versions of this book out there, some with connect, some with answer guides, some with other additional materials... be sure what you need for your class before ordering, the $45 connect fee on top of the book made it just as expensive as our campus bookstore, which included the connect.

5.0 out of 5 stars great book, December 22, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
this is a great book for people who want foundational knowledge on corporate finance.... it was my textbook for the fundamentals of corporate finance class and this book was just perfect for it. it is very easy to follow, great exercise problems and end of chapter problems, really good examples and the mini cases are especially great. uses real world scenarios and got me thinking and asking lots of good questions. really satisfied with the book. i usually sell all my textbooks at the end of term but this one i'll be holding on to for future references.

3.0 out of 5 stars Corp Finance is a dry read, need solutions manual . . ., December 21, 2008

This review is from: Corporate Finance, 8th Edition (Hardcover)
I purchased the Ross book for a couple of MBA courses. The book is very dry. To be of any value, I recommend the solutions manual. Part of the challenge of the book is the complexity of the material. The book is comprehensive and will provide the student with the concepts needed for any finance course but more than likely the student will need to consult the college library, finance websites, etc. to help correlate the information to real world examples. The S&P card wasn't really that useful for either of the courses I had.

Book was hard to follow, but all the information is there. You will need to spend time reading through a lot to find the information you need.

5.0 out of 5 stars Covers almost everything you'll need to know, December 8, 2011
By
This isn't an elementary "Intro to Finance" book. It assumes some prior knowledge of basic financial concepts(hint: the 3 main concepts in finance are TVM, Asset Valuation, and Risk Management). The book will seem dry and complicated if it's the first finance book you ever read. Otherwise, you'll appreciate its brevity and clarity. I'm using it for an MBA CorpFin course.
