Book Description

Corporate Finance, by Ross, Westerfield, and Jaffe is a popular textbook that emphasizes the modern fundamentals of the theory of finance, while providing contemporary examples to make the theory come to life. The authors aim to present corporate finance as the working of a small number of integrated and powerful intuitions, rather than a collection of unrelated topics. They develop the central concepts of modern finance: arbitrage, net present value, efficient markets, agency theory, options, and the trade-off between risk and return, and use them to explain corporate finance with a balance of theory and application. The well-respected author team is known for their clear, accessible presentation of material that makes this text an excellent teaching tool. Brad Jordan, known for his successful work on the RWJ Fundamentals and Essentials books, contributed to this edition. His influence will be seen particularly in the writing style with smoother coverage of topics, and the increased quality in the problem material.

2.0 out of 5 stars Kindle edition not as good as the print edition, December 29, 2009

This review is from: Corporate Finance (Kindle Edition)
This together with Brealey & Myers is one of the classic works on finance for practitioners. My plan was to buy it on Kindle so that I could more easily always have it with me as I travelled. The Kindle edition is good, and the illustrations are clear and sharp in the Kindle edition, unlike those in many Kindle books. However, a great drawback in a textbook or reference book is that there is no usable index. Sure, the words of the index have been replicated in the Kindle edition, but to no purpose: there is no way of getting from an entry in the index "e.g. "Risk") to the section of the book to which it refers. For various reasons Kindle books have no page numbers, but it is perfectly possible for the entries in the index of this book (and indeed all Kindle books) to either hyperlink to their subject matter or for a location number to be given instead. Given the very high price of this book, it is disappointing that the publishers chose not to spend a few hundred dollars to get a freelancer to put hyperlinks into the text. My suggestion for anyone who wants to use this book for reference or for studies is to wait until the publisher applies a proper, usable, index to the book, and in the meantime buy a second hand copy of the paper edition.

The Kindle book has no index. No vocabulary pages. No real practice material. No way to search for subject matter. Some of the explanations are fuzzy and incomplete. Not a very good book if you really want to learn the subject. Very difficult to study with.

Very informative textbook. Explanations of detailed financial theory and calculations have been very clear and thorough. The authors used fundamentals to help clarify more complicated concepts. Great tool for class!
