This review is from: The Corporation : A Centennial Biography of United States Steel Corporation, 1901-2001 (Hardcover)
Apelt achieved the seemingly impossible in this work, he made the history of the U.S. Steel Corporation(USX) an enjoyable read. Starting when the "steel trust" was put together in 1901 by J.P. Morgan and covering the complete history up to today, Apelt makes the reader feel that he knows the titans of industry who march through the pages. The reader is treated to a corporate history that does not always bring glory to the company. The struggles during the late 1970's and 1980's are covered as faithfully as the triumphs during the post war 1940's and 1950's. This is a very good book for people interested in both the history of industry and American history in general.

This Book must have been stored in the, "World's Mustiest cellar"..
It's been in our garage since day one, airing out. I can only read it for a short time before my asthma starts... Interesting book and info, if you have a gas mask! Steel Worker Al |
