In Corporations and Citizenship, Crane, Matten, and Moon take on the considerable task of analyzing the new role(s) that corporations have come to play in national and international politics and cultures. Though the reading is quite dense at times, the authors do the hard work of sifting through hundreds of published writings on the subject in order to discover what dominant ideologies exist about corporate citizenship (CC) and corporate social responsibility (CSR), as well as the appropriate measures corporations may take within society. The authors' findings are fascinating, and they are supported by bountiful examples of corporate intervention in issues that extend far beyond those of the enterprise.

Honestly, I have not read very much literature of this genre, so I found Corporations and Citizenship, which represents the latest ideas about corporations, to be fascinating. It truly expanded my thinking about what it means to be a citizen, corporation, or governmental body, and the shifting responsibilities that each of them face over the next century. As the focus of top MBA programs turns away from the old methods of creating profit and value and towards sustainability and accountability, the information presented here is indispensable for a rigorous course in business ethics.

Finally, I would like to note that prior coursework in philosophy (especially social theory) will be helpful to readers in understanding the material.
