Book Description

August 1, 2000
In Corpsmen: Letters from Korea, the Chappell twins gathered together their letters to chronicle their experiences as medical corpsmen in the First Marine Division during the Korean War. From boot camp to Bethesda Naval Hospital and on the Fleet Marine Force training and eventually the front line, and then in Indochina, the brothers kept in contact with their family in Ohio, offering firsthand narratives of their adventures.

This book captures the lives of corpsmen serving in wartime. The concerns, laughter, homesickness, and fears of the Chapell twins come through vividly in their letters, offering to the reader the chance to understand them as well as the war in which they served.

5.0 out of 5 stars Corpsmen a review by one who knew them when., January 5, 2001

This review is from: Corpsmen: Letters from Korea (Paperback)
I grew up in the shadow of Dick and Jerry Chappell. I heard the stories of Bethesda and the Korean front lines, but I was a small boy listing to his heroes. Getting to read their letters and their thoughts so many years later, as an adult, is indeed a treat. This book is a chronical of what is right with America. Here are two farm boys who go off to serve their country and to have the adventure of a life time. They were honorable boys, and they became the finest of men. If you haven't read it, do yourself a favor spend some time with two real American Boys.
