Book Description

November 30, 2007
Book Description:

"The Corpus Hermeticum are the core documents of the Hermetic tradition. Dating from early in the Christian era, they were mistakenly dated to a much earlier period by Church officials (and everyone else) up until the 15th century. Because of this, they were allowed to survive and we seen as an early precursor to what was to be Christianity. We know today that they were, in fact, from the early Christian era, and came out of the turbulent religious seas of Hellenic Egypt.

These are all taken from Mead's translations, which are in the public domain at this point." (Quote from sacred-texts.com)

About the Author

About the Author:

"John Michael Greer (1962-) is an author, occultist and religious leader who resides in Ashland, Oregon. His involvement in occultism began in his teen years when he began studying the Golden Dawn tradition of ceremonial magic. He was initiated into the Druid faith in the early 1990s and currently serves as Grand Archdruid of AODA, the Ancient Order of Druids in America. In 1993 he received a bachelor's degree from the University of Washington, magna cum laude, in Comparative History of Ideas.

His first book, Paths of Wisdom, a study of the Golden Dawn system of Qabalah, was published in 1996, and has been followed by many other books on occult topics. Greer also writes the Archdruid Report, a blog he describes as 'Druid perspectives on nature, culture, and the future of industrial society.'" (Quote from wikipedia.org)

5.0 out of 5 stars AWAKENING AND INSPIRING, May 11, 2008
This review is from: Corpus Hermeticum (Paperback)
A classical, one of the timeless pivotal readings to start a spiritual path along the right lines. No wonder so much has been written throughout the ages based on these early scripts, how many breakthroughs in philosophy, religion and even science it provided inspiration to!

Compared to more recent translations, this OMTO's version based on an early 1900's by G.R.S. Mead preserves the strong spiritual impact such a selection of texts is forcefully bound to have.

Making this kind of knowledge available to the present day seekers of the meaning of existence is truly a great service to mankind!

3.0 out of 5 stars Missing Chapters, January 1, 2012

A review and comparison the Table of Contents and Introduction shows an inconsistency in the number of chapters. The Table of Contents lists 13 chapters while the Introduction lists 15. I didn't realize this when I ordered the book. The Introduction also states that the book includes the Perfect Sermon. When I received the book I looked through it and did not see the last two chapters or the Perfect Sermon. Perhaps these are located in another volume.

When I'm purchasing a book I expect scholastic standards to be upheld. If I would be failed for citing Wikipedia in a course, then I'm not going to even look at a published book that cites wikipedia. That is absolutely laughable. I sent it back immediately. Also it was stapled together, it looked like someone had made it at home.
