4.0 out of 5 stars A Chief Justice That Loved God-Is That Possible?, October 4, 2000
By
Phil Webster (Hebron, MD USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Correspondence and Public Papers of John Jay (American Biography Series ; Volume Set) (Hardcover)
Can you imagine a Supreme Court Chief Justice that served God even publicly? This chief justice walked with God. His son William wrote a biography about him and closed the book by quoting Genesis 4:24 "Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, because God took him away." Those are powerful words for a son to say about a father. This book opened my eyes to how Jay walked with God and expressed his faith openly. Read his December 1776 message to the people of New York during the bleakest days. Also read his instructions to grand juries in Ulster County- judge cases in the sight of God. His correspondence with his wife Sally helps people see that John and Abigail Adams were not the only couple who had a good relationship. Yes good marriages can be found in our country, folks! This man's correspondence is a lost treasure. There is moral and spiritual gold waiting for the reader who digs deep enough.
