This review is from: The Corrida at San Feliu (Paperback)
I don't understand why Paul Scott's "pre-Raj Quartet" novels are ignored these days, especially A Male Child, The Love Pavilion, The Birds of Paradise and this haunting, profound, you name it, portrait of an artist (and of bullfightting). I guess it's because they're more private and conceived on a less grand scale. But they're literary gems--with a style and intelligence that's on par with the best writing of the 20th century.
