5.0 out of 5 stars Death/extreme metalheads...Get this!
This album is really great. Asesino plays straight forward fast brutal death metal with incredibly ferocious rapid-fire blastbeats, heavy riffs and sick, aggressive death vocals. This is the band/sideproject of Dino Cazares the god-like guitar player from Fear Factory/Brujeria. Of course his riffs totally brutal and even more diverse with some solos and leads in there...

3.0 out of 5 stars Brujeria Junior
By now it should be easy to predict what to expect when you have a side project band involving Dino Cazares and Raymond Herrera of Fear Factory. You get heavy riffing, machine-gun drumming, and stacatto Spanish lyrics, heavy on the Mexican drug culture slang. Throw in Tony Campos from Static-X, and what do you get? An ersatz Brujeria album.

Campos pulls bass and...

Of course his riffs totally brutal and even more diverse with some solos and leads in there. Dino, just like in FF, likes to play and create cool catchy riffs in combination with the double bass and blastbeat drumming. The band has some Slayer influences [Slayer is Dino's favourite band] but most of it is death and some grind. The lyrics are pretty sick and of course sung in spanish. However i would like to point out that this is no Brujeria. First of all Brujeria is Grindcore, Asesino is Death Metal and while Brujeria has that famous dark humourous side, nothing is funny or amusing in Asesino. This band is plain brutal playing pure death metal. There isn't much technical stuff here certainly not like Cryptopsy or Nile, just badass aggresive songs. I would recommend this band to any extreme metal fans out there. Fans of Skinless, Vader, Deicide, Decapitated, Nasum etc...Get ASESINO!

5.0 out of 5 stars METAL MANIACS!!!, November 2, 2006
This review is from: Corridos De Muerte (Audio CD)
Asesino's music make most of current death and black metal bands look like babies. Emilio, Enrique and Dino are some of the best musicians performing live. Emilio's performance on drums is remarkable. Do not pay too much attention on their lyrics (don't waste your time in translating them) I think they're aware themselves of the junk lyrics they sing. Anyway don't miss the chance to get this disc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful. A great Death Metal/Grindcore hybrid!!!, July 3, 2006
This review is from: Corridos De Muerte (Audio CD)
If I could give this album higher than 5 stars I would. It deserves it. This album (and band) are brutal, at some points technical, interesting and unique. I've been looking for something like this for a while and finally found it. Believe it or not, I actually found out about these guys on Headbangers Ball a couple of weeks back. I never really payed much attention to Dino's involvement in side projects since Brujeria and RR United. I didnt even KNOW he had formed this band WAY back in 2002! What a pleasant surprise. Its nice to see guys from respected Metal bands such as Sepultura, Brujeria, Static-X and (although not Metal) Hatebreed come together and form something so awesome! I cant wait until their release of "Cristo Satanico" on the 13th of this month!

Buy this album if you like bands like Cannibal Corpse, Skinless, Dying Fetus, Pig Destroyer, and The Red Chord (especially their "Fused Together in Revolving Doors" album).

Ive always enjoyed Static X, and always dug the backing vocals of Tony. This cd is very brutual and the singing is outstanding. I dont know Brujeria yet but I cant say it is a copycat. I mean Rammstein sings in German; So if some other band sings in German, will they be ripping off Rammstein? I highly recommend this cd, even if you dont know what the heck they are saying.

5.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't get better than this, July 19, 2003

With Tony Campos of Static-X on vocals and bass, Raymond Herrera of Fear Factory on drums, and Dino Cazares ex-Fear Factory on guitar, you know it'll be good.

It's way better than what you expect. All the songs are good especially the final two songs.

I don't know what this CD will be like if you don't understand Spanish, especially Mexican slang, but if you do you'll understand the great lyrics, my favorite part is the end of La Ejecucion(the execution, not the spoken word part).

Only bad things about this are the riffs "borrowed" from Terrorizer and that the songs are really short, if you cut out any intros and outros the record is really short.

Campos pulls bass and lyrical duties, which he fulfills adequately. But musically, he must not have had any input because this disc is pure Dino. Don't get me wrong, I really like Dino's guitar playing, but it lacks variety. I have come to believe that the variety found in Fear Factory's work must be derived from the input of the other band members.

I'm not sure why Asesino merits their own album. This disc would be a good tie-breaker at a metal trivia contest. Which is it? Brujeria? Asesino? Or Dino's next clone of the former?

This disc is OK. If you like Dino's other work, then you'll be instantly comfortable with Asesino, in a familiarity-breeds-contempt fashion. Don't expect any surprises.
