5.0 out of 5 stars Haunting tunes, extraordinary performances..., August 13, 2001
This review is from: The Corries: The Silver Collection (Audio CD)
While visiting the Bannockburn Center while on vacation in Scotland a few years ago, I heard the hauntingly familiar "Queen's Maries" playing somewhere in the background. At the gift shop, I finally cornered someone who worked there to tell her I'd grown up with that song! She said, in her beautiful Scottish burr, that(of course)she had grown up with it, too. It was the Corries' Silver Album that was playing and I promptly bought the shop's last CD in stock. I played it repeatedly during the 10 hour flight home...and I played it for months, over and over. If you even think you would love Scotland, this CD is where it all starts and ends. It is packed with history and romance, and ill-fated causes, and war...it is Scotland herself crowded into one breathtaking listening experience. You cannot listen to this music without becoming involved. And if you have been fortunate enough to travel to her shores...this CD will make you yearn to see her again.

5.0 out of 5 stars One outstanding compilation!, September 29, 2000

This review is from: The Corries: The Silver Collection (Audio CD)
This CD has some of the best Scottish folk music around. The Corries have created some of the most beautiful and emotional music available. These two gents from Scotland play all of the instruments and the harmony between the two of them is out of this world. Their songs range from classic Scottish love songs to old wartime hymns. The have the ability to keep you tapping your feet the entire time they are singing. "Scotland the Brave" is by far one of my favorites, but they are all worthy of a listen. This CD is a "sure thing" that delivers time and again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Scottish Folk Music At Its Best, July 26, 2000
This review is from: The Corries: The Silver Collection (Audio CD)
They were the best; two very talented musicians with the uncanny ability, because of their being able to play several instruments, to sound like ten. The material is very traditional, yet The Corries personalized this music with their own subtle interpretations. It is their straightforward , honest approach to the music--with no gimmicks--that is so remarkable. This CD is, I think, the best starting point for the newcomr; it is a representative collection of their work from several albums, including live recordings.
