5.0 out of 5 stars True Gem
Corrinne May's CD is a true gem. At first, it took me sometime to get used to a more covered, though smooth and beautiful, voice since it's not the current fashion. 3.0 out of 5 stars Not "quite" Christian music...
I was introduced to Ms. May by a co-worker who really liked some of her songs. Before I knew her, that person had some traumatic experience from which she was still healing, and in that context, I understand why she really liked Corrine.

Ms. May's lyrics tend to be very upbeat in their messages--I get the impression that she struggled to overcome some serious...

5.0 out of 5 stars True Gem, August 10, 2001

This review is from: Corrinne May (Audio CD)
Corrinne May's CD is a true gem. At first, it took me sometime to get used to a more covered, though smooth and beautiful, voice since it's not the current fashion. But Corrinne transcends current fashion in every way. This CD is full of powerful, emotional, meaningful songs that are beautifully performed. The topics of my favorites include the bitter-sweet nature of the eventual separation of mother and daughter (Fly Away), a hopeful way of looking at separated loved ones (Same Side of the Moon), the chances you need to take to achieve your dreams (Fall to Fly), the gentle encouragement of a woman telling her man to `just be yourself' (Mr. Beasley), a woman imploring her friend to leave an abusive relationship (Walk Away), and quiet acknowledgment of the trials of life with a request for God's companionship along the way (Journey). The best way I know to convey the essence of Corrinne is to say that she would be a great addition to a Lilith Fair type of line-up - good musicians with meaningful work that seems to speak to everyone in some way. If you like female singer-songwriters this is a MUST purchase. I promise it will be immediately become your favorite CD of the day, and one of the CDs that you keep when you come back to AMAZON in ten years to sell off all the disappointments you've collected.

Every Once in a While a very special cd comes along and this cd definitely fits that category.. Every song on this album is magnificent, from the title track, "Fly Away", to the last song,
"Mr. Beasly" unplugged. Corrinne May, the artist not only wrote all the songs, but performs them in a style that will hold up to any singer, past, present, or very possibly future. She has chosen to remain an independent artist, that is, not signing with any record label,a reason many people have never heard of her,If I sound crazy, just go to her website, corrinnemay.com, and from there, you will be able to listen to this album before
you invest your hard earned dollars.. on a scale of 1-5, this cd is a 10!! E-mail me if you think I'm wrong.. Enjoy!!

While on a Christmas vacation in Singapore, I accidentally caught an in store performance of Corrine May at Borders. Didn't know who she was at that time so I just continued shopping and ignored her show. However, being enchanted by her music was inevitable and inescapable. The songs she performed in the store (also featured on the CD) are very very beautiful pop gems. Miss May's original music reminds me of the pretty melodies of pop classics by Joni Mitchell, Jimmy Webb, Rupert Holmes, Carly Simon and of course the great Carol King.

It is very refreshing to hear music that is not apologetic or shy about pretty melodies. Hopefully, her label can also get this album released in the Philippines. For sure, it'll be a hit here knowing the Filipinos penchant for heartwarming melodies and lyrics....

It's been 2 years now since that Borders Promo launch.....Corrine, it's time to come up with a new album. Your fans are waiting!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A New Refreshing Sound, March 20, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Corrinne May (Audio CD)
I have recently bought her cd, and it is wonderful!!! Her sound is amazing! her voice is rich and smooth. i heard her winning entry for a Tonos contest and i knew i wanted her cd when it came out. her style is different from most of today's artists. it is truely unique and uplifting. my favorite song on her cd is the same side of the moon. her lyrics are poetic and it flows evenly, unlike some songs today which have quirks and many rhythm flaws. her songs make me feel happy to be alive and raises my spirits. Corrinne May's music is inspiring to the heart and soul. It is now my new favorite cd. What i do hope is that other people will get to know her music and enjoy her talent which she has shared with us.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everyone Should Hear this CD, February 10, 2005

All I can say is that I love this cd. I don't remember how I heard of Corrinne but I was just stunned by the emotion in her songs when I first heard her. I just wish that I knew about it in 2001! My favorite songs are "Fly Away," "Journey," and "Same Side of the Moon." I like her piano playing very much but she also has songs where she plays guitar.

I hope that she puts out another cd very soon because her music is very touching. I also hope that more avenues open for people to hear music like hers. This is a cd I would recommend to everyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Voice of an angel, September 30, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Corrinne May (Audio CD)
When I heard "Fly Away" on radio, I went out immediately to buy Corrinne's CD. I'm still listening to her record after so many months. Corrinne has the power to capture hearts and touch souls. It's not surprising to see her rise as a talented new artist in the States. Corrinne is honored to have worked with the legendary Carole King and Carole Bayer Sager on her debut album. All 12 songs on her album are beautifully sung, from the heart-felt ballad "If you didn't love me" to the guitar-driven melody "Something about you". Track 11 "Journey" is a must-listen for those who have suffered from setbacks in life.

I highly recommend Corrinne's album to you if you're into James Taylor, Sarah McLachlan, Karen Carpenter, or Nichole Nordeman. It is an album that you won't regret buying and would listen after a tiring day. Corrinne truly has the voice of an angel!!!

Peace, Love, Rock & Roll,
Angelina Yeo.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and Inspiring, June 13, 2002
This review is from: Corrinne May (Audio CD)
I am so proud of one of the few local exports that Singapore produces authentically. Corrinne May may appear a far cry from sensational pop divas like Mariah Carey, Barbra Streisand and Céline Dion, but is, nonetheless, equally aesthetic and even quipped by renowned figures, such as singer-songwriter Carole King, as a true artist. Her debut album compiles many of her excellent work of emotionally rich songs. One of my favorites is Fly Away, which talks about the painful separation(s) between a mother and daughter. Beautifully written by a young lady, who used to read Literature in the National University of Singapore, and sung with the heart that I can only listen in awe. (My friend listened to one song for 1 hour - What more can I say?)

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Music, meaningful words, May 31, 2005
This review is from: Corrinne May (Audio CD)
This is a CD to treasure and to give to friends. Indeed, I have done so and all my friends home and abroad have enjoyed it very much. I love the wonderful tunes, her friendly voice, her exact piano playing and meaningful lyrics. But what really touches me is her luminous personality and strong values that shine through in the way she exceutes her songs and in her lyrics. Corrinne is a wonderful change from the normal image of the musicians that throng the popular music world.

This CD is just a little different to stand on its own. Take a clean well balance emotional female singer with great range, add some lite jazz & pop hooks to some unique modal changes, play with mostly guitar or piano backup, & wrap within great sound production. The only thing missing is the lyrics. Sometimes you can guess what the next word will be & some songs come close to Christian Pop Rock because of the subject matter (Is she singing about God, humanity, or a boyfriend/lover in most of the songs?), but don't worry, this CD is way above that style.

Are you tired of all the gloom & doom of modern Pop? Do you want something refreshing? Do you want to smile as you drive down the freeway? Give this CD a spin to clear the air.
