Book Description

December 6, 2009
Shady dealings, government corruption, and the ruthless pursuit of money and power: It's politics as usual in The Corrupt Republic, the explosive new political thriller by Andrew Buck. Inspired by Americans' growing distrust of Wall Street and Washington, The Corrupt Republic tells the all-too-believable story of one man's entry into the upper echelons of power and politics, the shocking corruption he uncovers and the lengths to which those with the most to lose will go to keep him from talking. The book's release is timely, given America's disillusionment -- Democrats, Republicans and Independents alike -- with politicians and disgust with the financial crisis. The novel's vision drew from the nation's political divisions and the despair people felt in the face of obvious political corruption, crippling financial bailouts, "tea party" revolts, record deficit spending, a deep recession and the desire for meaningful change in Washington. Ultimately, the novel also shines a light into that darkness by introducing a main character that reflects the best of America and exemplifies the nation's ethical core and values. Readers will walk away from The Corrupt Republic with a new resolve against the marriage of business and politics and renewed hope for the future of the country. Buck is not the likely choice to write a page-turner about dirty dealings in Washington, but as he watched the rapidly changing political and financial landscape of America, he couldn't shake the idea for The Corrupt Republic. The novel quickly took shape. "Because of our current political and economic situation, and the current American mood, The Corrupt Republic lays the foundation for a compelling dialogue on the future direction of our country," said Buck. "It provides a present-day perspective to help readers understand how critical political and financial decisions affect our nation's future."

This review is from: The Corrupt Republic (Paperback)
The Corrupt Republic, the first book by Andy Buck, is one I simply couldn't put down. The story of Jack Thomason was riveting from beginning to end. As someone who isn't into political thrillers or boring books about finance, this book seemed a healthy balance between a great story about people, relationships, and the struggle for one man to truly bring about changes (even when he's not thrilled with the idea of being the guy bringing about change). The characters didn't seem fake and that helped when attempting to place them in 'real world' situations such as the budget and financial crisis we're in today. This book grabs you instantly and doesn't let go. I'll even go so far to state that this is the type of book that Hollywood should salivate over; it's got all you need for a blockbuster. Here's hoping that Andy continues the series; it's worth it!

5.0 out of 5 stars You will enjoy it!, January 12, 2010
This review is from: The Corrupt Republic (Paperback)
I bought The Corrupt Republic not really knowing what to expect as I was not familiar with the author's writing or his style. However, I was interested in reading a book that is inspired by the recent financial meltdown and the associated political intrigue.

Once I started reading it, I realized by Page 10 that this was going to be one of those books that you want to keep going back to and continue reading. The story was well paced and I enjoyed the characters and how they develop over the course of the book. Its a great story line! I could relate to the book further probably because I am an avid reader of politics, finance and of various types of fiction and also from the Greater NYC area. I will be keeping The Corrupt Republic in my bookshelf and will probably re-read it again some point in the future, like I do with all good novels.

Hope to read the next part of Jack Thomason's life soon!

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally a Great Page Turner!, January 11, 2010
This review is from: The Corrupt Republic (Paperback)
You can wait a long time between great books. You know the feeling? Dying for a good book to curl up against the winter weather, to just forget everything and become engrossed? That's how I felt when I logged into Amazon and tripped over this one. I gave it a chance and ordered it. Quite honestly I thought if it doesn't intrigue me, I can gift it to someone on my list. Well, when I got it, I picked it up, to get a feel for the kind of book it really was. You might say that evening went before I realized. It was a page turner. Looking back over my gift list, I realized it would interest many of my friends and family. So it was happiness itself for me. I couldn't put it down without the feeling that I just had to find out what happened in the next page or two. Well that turned into 20 or more. It is a political thriller that was well executed and felt as though it was someone who really understood this financial fiasco we are living through. I kept thinking, why don't we hear this guy on the interview shows instead of those talking heads that frankly I am quite nauseated by. This author and his characters felt authentic and credible. Well I did gift it - to the library where I run into many folks like me who say they pick out books, week after week, carry them home and all they get is the exercise of going there and going back with only partly read books. Doesn't that sound familiar? Now the question occurs to me, will there be another one? Will it be a part of a series? It read like it could be, although it did not clip off the end like those that want you to buy the next book. I just wonder if there will be. I will definitely buy it and yes I did order more for the people on my gift list.
