Good in-depth information, May 24, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Corruption and Democracy in Thailand (Paperback)
This gave a very good background to the structure of Thai politics. Easy to read but a bit dry and repetitive at times.

How and why concerning corruption, July 27, 2010
This review is from: Corruption and Democracy in Thailand (Paperback)
Today I finished this book which was reprintet i 2001. So I now own 8 books about Thailand and are going to by som more.
Concerning Thailand I this year, before the actual book, read Pasuk Phongpaichits updatet book about Thaksin. But this book about corruption have to do with why there are corruption and what to do to finish it, or make it smaller. There are mentioned some cases where corruption are as big at 30 - 40 % af the total project. And one case where it was 100 %! For making corruption smaler the saleri has to be increased for the peopel working for the state, especially concerning police, so the don't need the connection to the godfathers.
There are many detailed cases concerning corruption and especially how the corruption has to do with the MP's, that is who that get into the parlament. And thereby the problem learning what a democracy rearly are. As the history shows voting being bought by money. And even for exampel high police positions bought by money.
And also mentioned how a godfather was going to be the prime minister in 1991 untill it showed up that he had not been allowed to visit USA as he had had to do with 40 tons of marihuana that had got in USA.
So the book bouth is good and detailet about how and why corruption works and besides as a histori about Thailands problem with learning how democracy works.
