4.0 out of 5 stars CORSAIR 2000Mhz DDR3 6 GB kit, January 30, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Corsair CMG6GX3M3A2000C8 6 GB Dominator GT PC3-16000 2000Mhz 240-pin Triple Channel DDR3 Memory Kit (Personal Computers)
Works great, came with XMP1 profile (1866 / 2:14), so if you have mobo that supports XMP profiles it makes it easy to set it up in the BIOS. You still need to setup your voltage in BIOS to 1.65V manually. It is rated up to 2000Mhz but I was unable to set it using my X-58 EVGA classified mobo under memory section, next setting was 2:16 with base clock of 133 I got over 2100 and I did not try it yet. But you can pump it up to 2000 using your base clock if you are into over clocking. I have my i7 975 OCed to 4.1 Ghz and running this memory at 1866 (changing my base clock for anything over 135 produced instability under Prime95 torture test) So is it worth to pay top dollar for 2000 Mhz? That is up to you, it does leave you room to play and piece of mind for "stability" if OCing and/or benchmarking but for everyday use it is an over kill, I would go with 1600Mhz and get 12 GB of it for almost the same price ;-)

NOW the BAD part, memory cooler, it absolutely SUCKS....after a month, started to make grinding noises, RMAed and Corsair sent a replacement, but after 2 weeks it started to grind again. I got fed up and took it apart to see what's going and turns out one of the fans was "unbalanced" so I am RMAing again but in the meantime bought OCZTXTCC2 XTC Cooler V2 for which I am waiting now. I'll keep the Corsair cooler as backup. As I did some digging on the net, it turns out I am not the only one who experienced this problem....and that is unsatisfactory for the price, that's why I gave 4 stars not 5. I let Corsair know maybe they need to check their suppliers QA process lol. Hope this helps.

4.0 out of 5 stars Screaming fast, still pricey, May 14, 2010

I ordered two of these kits for my editor and they rock. The fans are quiet and unlike a previous comment I read, I have no trouble with them. The only real negative is the price, but you get what you pay for and this is the well worth the money. If you're going to build a high end computer don't skimp on the RAM or you will regret it.
