This review is from: Corsair CMPSU-450VX 450-Watt VX Series 80 Plus Certified Power Supply compatible with Core i7 and Core i5 (Personal Computers)
Finally, a power supply that exceeds my expectations. I've been trying to achieve quiet computing on the cheap for years, thinking that the latest and greatest "quiet" $40 power supply would sound less like a jet taking off. For this one, on the other hand, I actually had to get a flashlight to make sure the fan was moving!
The construction of this reeks of quality. Everything from the classy packaging, the helpful manual, and the nice mesh around the cables to keep them from getting hot and/or tangled. This comes with a 24-pin ATX power cable, which I hadn't encountered, but they designed it so that a little grunt work will remove the extra four pins. An adapter might have been a little more elegant, but that's being picky. Very highly recommended - this is an excellent piece of gear!

Works like a charm, easy to install and features a powerful set of fans. This PSU is a dream come true for all people with a single GPU system; the 12v rail is plenty powerful for your graphics card (will run the recent 8800GT just fine!); the only downside is the lack of customizable / removable cables that the higher-voltage versions have, but due to the excellent cord wrap, they can be tucked away safely without getting in the way of any fans or vital system parts.

Overall, I was very happy with this power supply. It appears of good quality for the money and the mesh wrap around the wires made it easy to organize them within the case. Corsair even included some tie wraps so you didn't have to go searching for a few if you like to keep your routing neat and tidy. The standard drive connectors were aplenty and fit more snugly than most.
Beyond all existing reviews I don't have too much more relevant to add other than a comment on the location of this power supply's fan, which is a large fan located on the top. While that is obvious from the photos, it is not obvious that there is no exhaust via a traditional rear fan or to any other side so your case will require an opening or have significant space above the power supply for it to vent properly. Installing this into an older mid tower case where the power supply mounts against the top of the case meant that I was going to have to modify the case so that the fan exhausted properly. This was no problem for me as I'm adept with sheet metal fabrication and already own a 5" hole saw, but I realize that is not something most people have laying around the house. The top of my case also came off easily so I could make the modification off line without having to remove the case components or risk filling it with metal filings. So in conclusion, if you plan to put this in a smaller or older case, it either would be wise to check your case to see what is above your power supply and be prepared to modify your case or chose another power supply that vents in a more traditional location.

I've been running this in a box with an i5-750, ATI 5750, Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3 with two hard drives for about a month and have had absolutely no noise or stability issues. Installation was easy with plenty of cords for future expansion. No issue whatsoever.

First unit would not power up. Second unit had noisy fan bearings. I've had good luck with Corsair power supplies in the past. This model has quality issues.

i purchase this after reading the review of recommended power supplies in SPCR (silent pc)
this was the cheapest yet one of the quietest one there(only nexus 430 would be quieter but almost a 100 bucks) ,and best of all it was only $[...] after the $[...] rebate. product is quiet even under full load (amd 630 quad core running prime95), which is important because i had a cheap $[...] '485'W PSU that roared loudly under load but was quiet at idle. this one is supposed to be 21dB up to 200W and 22db up to 250W, which is more than enough juice for anyone not running two video cards (i have one ATI radeon 4670) and two HD. so very satisfied and pleased, also cables are LONG so should not have a problem bottom mounting it.

At >80% efficiency, it saves power compared to the 3-year-old Antec 65%-efficiency unit that I replaced (enough to pay for itself over time). The voltages are all within spec, whereas my old Antec's +5V output had dropped down to the 4.7V range (on average with spikes below that) causing random system crashes when switching graphics modes and sometimes the system wouldn't boot; no more problems since installing the Corsair. The power connectors are easy to grip, but I find that the pins in the Molex connectors are sometimes off-center causing difficulty attaching to IDE drives. Fan is almost silent unless supply is fully loaded. Still waiting for my rebate.

This unit is standard ATX size and was great fit for replacement of power supply in my Dell E520. I picked up this power supply to make my system quieter, and more efficient as I leave it on 24/7.
Install was very easy, remove 4 screws on existing power supply and remove from PC case, unplug existing connectors. Slide in new power supply, attach with 4 screws previously removed and make connections to your motherboard, drives and video card (as necessary). This has 8 pin connector for motherboard (12V), but is split into 2 4 pin connectors - so if you, like me, have a 4 pin motherboard just plug in one connector and let the other hang loose. Based on it's size this should fit any case that has standard power supply. The supply is extremely quiet. It's so quiet that I the only noise I hear now is the fan on my video card. With 2 CD/DVD drives, 2 hard drives and video area, the 450 has plenty of connections, almost twice as many as I need today! Any unused connector just tie up and tuck neatly inside your PC case. Just need to note that this has only one PCI-E connector, so if you have more than one video card you'll need to get a special connector. I'd suggest if you do have dual video cards you invest in the 750W version of this supply, it has 3 PCI-E connectors. If you, like me, have no need for dual video cards this is more than ample to power your rig.

Running: Pentium Dual-Core CPU 3.2GHz, 4.0GB Ram, Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, Gigabyte G41M-Combo Motherboard, 1TB HD, 500MB HD, DVD-RW Drive, CD-RW Drive.
Thing never even flinches. Best power supply I've ever had. First time I've ever bought a Corsair. I'd always bought the cheaper priced but higher watt psu's and until recently I never realized I was wasting my money then I read on a forum that even buying a lower watt Corsair or even a couple of the other better brand names your getting better more consistent power throughput then you are with the cheaper ones and it's much safer on your computer cause they are made from better quality material so they won't burnout and fry any of your other computer computer components along with it. I'm sure there are others that could explain better then I can but now that I kind of understand it I'm glad I bought this Corsair psu. It's working great. Usually by now with the cheaper ones I would have had to replace it by now. Also with the cheaper ones by now I would have had hissing coming from them. So far so good.

This is an excellent and high quality PSU, and it's really very quiet. The difference between this one an the ones most pcs have is amazing. Very well built.
