This conservative design ensures reliable operation in today's most demanding system configurations and adds compatiblity for future platforms. The unique combination of rock solid performance and incredible value puts the Corsair VX family of power supplies in a class of its own. Ideal for home theater PCs and ENERGY STAR PCs, the VX line maximizes energy savings and minimum noise generation thanks to double-forward switching circuitry design.

I'd definitely recommend if you are looking for a quiet PSU and don't mind whether it's modular or not.

Though I didn't buy this unit through Amazon, I did buy it
1 1/2 years ago. It has proven to be a great PSU for my needs.
Here's one thing about Corsair's customer service. The first day
I got the unit, I messed up the cables..bad. There was no way
that the site I bought it from was going to take it back. No
way, no how. I contacted Corsair's CS and explained what I did.
Instead of telling me "so sorry, you'll have to buy another since
you messed it up" they told me to ship it up to them and they'd
take a look. I did so. Much to my surprise, Corsair contacted me
and told me though I did mess it up and admitted to it, they
felt that if I was going to use their product, just this once,
they would take care of me.

In 5 days, I had a spanking new 550 VX PSU sitting on my porch
when I got home from work. Corsair sent me a brand new one,
picked up the tab for shipping it down to me and simply ask
that in the future when looking for another PSU or memory
please take a moment to look at their products ! That was
it..

Now honestly how can one beat customer service like this ?
That's why when it comes to certain hardware, Corsair is
my first choice to look into when shopping.

Everything about this unit, the price and the Amazon service is first-rate.
Unit comes securly packaged first in protective padding, then some type of tyvek bag within a heavy box. Looks and feels well made. Plenty of leads and enough flexibility to connect to whatever you want. Fits right into a new HP case with no problems. Comes with its own mounting screws and black zip-ties to tidy up your installation.
I have been using this for a couple of weeks intermitantly, and so far it is working as it should. It is also very quiet.
Bonus - It comes with a cool sticker to put on your case.

Just as a quick review,
the Corsair 550VX is a terrific power supply.
Last summer I replaced it in a family members system that had a terrible/inefficient little PSU.

About the 550VX;
it's efficient, well made & quite, with a strong 12V rail
...and a great Corsair warranty.
You really can't go wrong with Corsair & Seasonic, their industry leading.
The stability gained from a good PSU is immeasurable,..its key to your system!

One small complaint,
the non-modular cable design can be a bit of a pain to 'tuck away' unused cables.
I must add, the cable sleeving is very good.}
(Almost deducted a Star for the cable management, still giving 5 Stars)

~ Yes, I'd buy it again,
and install it for anyone else looking to do their computer a real hardware compliment.

cheers *****

I purchased this Corsair 550 watt power supply to upgrade my system after finding out that my stock 350 watt power supply was not capable of supporting the HD4850 ATI graphics card I purchased. I selected this model based on reputation, specs required for Amps on a rail and sales price. It was easy to install and has performed flawlessly. I am fully satisfied after six months of daily use.

I searched for an 80 + rated power supply to reduce heat build up in my computer case. The 80 + effeciency produces less heat. This combined with the large fan did the trick. Works fine. Lots of extra cords I had to stuff in the case.

I've only had this a few weeks, but this is an excellent mid-level power supply that should suit the needs of most desktop users (except hardcore gamers). Extremely quiet and stable. Pretty simple upgrade to do on the standard power supply that came with my OEM desktop. This unit is standard ATX size and should fit inside any mid-tower case. It has plenty of connections (carefully tie up the unused connections to keep the inside of your case neat). I'm using it to power a Q6600 desktop (non-overclocked), two DVD-RW drives and two 500G hard drives, and this should also be able to handle a very good, mid-level graphic card (like an 8800GT or Radeon 4850). This power supply is also SLI/Crossfire capable, but likely only for lower-powered graphic cards (a dual 8800GT or Radeon 4850 setup will probably be too much to handle for this unit). But if you don't need/want a very high end graphic card(s), then this power supply is highly recommended.

I was having doubts about this PSU at first. After I got it, i believe i get the premium quality for the premium price. It was night and day compared to the FAR Ultra V-series 500W in terms of noise level. I couldn't hear anything even CPU is fulled loaded. Great PSU and highly recommend it.

I purchased a high end PC recently but it came with a lousy factory-standard power supply. This power supply is great, it does the job, stays cool, is very quiet, and was easy to install. The installation instructions could have been more clear, but one quick call to their tech support cleaed up my question. The support was pleasant and professional, and easy to understand. If you are looking for an upgrade, I definitely recommend this power supply.
