Fast!,
By
This review is from: Corsair 120 GB Force Series Ultra Fast TRIM Supported Solid State Drive CSSD-F120GB2-BRKT (Personal Computers)
This drive is FAST! So much that after installing it into my Mac Pro and applying updates that required a reboot I looked away and back at my computer without realizing that the the computer came back from a reboot! Application starts are snappy and the drive is very quiet. The drive will not speed up applications once they are up and running unless your application is making lots of reads from the drive. My primary use for this drive is as a boot drive that has most of my core applications.
I don't have the problems reported about recovering from sleep but I don't mind turning off my computer anymore. Booting up and powering down is very quick. However, this is installed in a desktop so laptops may have different issues with hibernation when the lid is closed.

Great drive!,

I got this one almost a month ago. Great disk! Top speeds as advertised! I'm getting 285MB/s peak read speed and 275MB/s peak write speed using recommended ATTO benchmark tool. Windows (fresh install with BIOS AHCI enabled) boots quite fast and overall system response is better now. Windows Aero Score for disc drive rose from 5.2 to 7.6. My overall score now is 7.2.
If you have a "green" drive with low power consumption, low cache (2 - 8MB) or low speed (5400RPM) you will see a great performance leap. If you have a high performance disk then you'll get moderate speed upgrade on small file reading and very good boost on file transfers that exceed the drives' cache size (mine was a Western Digital Black Caviar 640GB with 32MB cache). On the gaming side, large maps on games load really fast. Very good for cutting load times specially on games with huge maps or levels. Also, most productivity tools load in 1-2 seconds. This drive uses the fastest available SandForce 1200 controller available (Dec/2010). Shipped firmware version is 1.1 on my unit. You get 111GB of free space after Windows NTFS formatting (4K allocation units) (extrapolating you should get about 55GB free on the 60GB version with same controller and no performance degradation). Very good price per GB (1.17) and the best performance per dollar ratio around for now (Dec/2010). Very happy!

works well with Lenovo T61, Win7,

Those wondering how their own laptop would work wtih this SSD (F120, with sandforce 1200 controller), I am enjoying my upgrade to Win7 and the SSD drive. System boots up on my C2D 2.0GHz (2GB Mem) within 20 seconds and outlook up/running within 25seconds.
sleep and awake are fast and things are fine. quite literally this is the best upgrade I have done to a laptop in a long time. Now a days, the CPU/Mem have way more capacity than what a business person needs for corporate laptop. the only weakness was the HDD. SSD closes that read/write and reliability (spinning media vs. no mechanical) gap to make the system a solid one. And to think of it, my laptop is 2yrs old technology wise, and I still don't think it is an old system. in general, I would not recommend to do a disk-duplication from a XP. XP isn't really SSD friendly, Win7 is(TRIM support, defrag turned off etc.). And highly recommend a fresh install of WIn7 on the SSD. Do read up on corsair forum on some particular workstations (& some laptops) had problems with firmware 1.0 on these Force SSDs. Do upgrade to 2.0 firmware if that is your case (Gigabyte MotherBoards had some specific issues, not sure if everything is resolved, but my Lenovo/Intel-CPU based system works well, no issues). cheers PN

NEVER Consider a SSD from Corsair,
By
This review is from: Corsair 120 GB Force Series Ultra Fast TRIM Supported Solid State Drive CSSD-F120GB2-BRKT (Personal Computers)
Unless you like to live in a world of pain, don't EVER consider purchasing a SSD from Corsair. I'm now dealing with the FOURTH defective drive from Corsair: originally a P128 (a Samsung controller w/ pre-TRIM support--Win 7 64-bit OS) that failed after attempting to upgrade the firmware), RMAed & replaced by a F120 drive (defective & RMAed), a 2nd F120 (defective & RMAed) & now a THIRD defective F120--adding insult to injury, a REBURBISHED SSD more immediately defective than the new RMA replacements--no mention of the fact that this was already a returned drive after a year & countless hours trying to get their defective drives to work. Not even the boot drive--which is an OCZ Vertex II 120GB SSD, which works like a charm (as does an Intel X-25 80MB SSD drive on another computer). Tech support: "oh yeah, I've had problems with this drive also." So after being put through defective hardware hell, they send returned (no doubt returned as defective) goods. Bad memory?--12GB Corsair DDR3 Vengeance (primary desktop), 8GB DDR3 Dominator (secondary desktop w/ Intel SSD--no issues). Bad PSU?--Corsair HX850. Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD7-B3 mobo (Intel 1155 w/ Intel i7 2600k chip): no issues UNLESS Corsair F120 is attached (swapped SATA cables & SATA ports): OCZ SSD boot (also with SandForce controller--only faster & it works) + WD 1TB Caviar Black & WD Raptor 300MB drives. Look at the % of defective SSDs for ANY Corsair drive. After countless hours trying to get this defective garbage to work, they send already returned goods--undisclosed, of course. This is NOT a company you want to roll the dice with if you're considering a SSD.

I bought this ssd drive for my aging lenovo y430 laptop. It works very well and is very fast. Application and boot times and all.
I chose the sandforce based model because of the the good advertised write speeds. I was eyeing the intel x-25m before this came around. I'm pretty glad i chose this. Just a few tips for those who want to buy it: - In my laptop, it bsods on boot when you install the the intel rapid storage AHCI drivers. May be on a case-to-case basis. So i recommend just using the windows driver. - Don't defrag anymore. - Perform a clean install whenever possible. I highly recommend this product for those who want to speed up their old laptops. Processors are very fast even for 3 year old laptops so with this SSD (and possibly maxing out your ram), you pretty much future-proof your investment further. You won't be dissapointed with this SSD upgrade.

Unreliable,

Fast drive for sure, but unreliable. Mine went out after 6 months with the BSOD in Windows 7 and wouldn't detect by Bios. I signed up for an RMA # on Corsair's website, and received an email saying I would be contacted within 5 days. About 5 days later, I got an email explaining the RMA process and a number. I sent the drive in and received another email when the drive was delivered to them that due to high volume of quality issues, they would take another 5 days to fix/send the drive back. I certainly will be going elsewhere next time, even if I'm lucky enough that the returned product even works. I run a small software business, and having to re-install the 25+ packages on my computer now and configure them all again has cost me too much.

If you plan to use this SSD on any decent operating system that has TRIM support, you're in for a world of hurt and pain. Corsair shipped these drives with a couple serious defects and have since only patched a couple of the minor ones. I highly recommend you avoid Corsair entirely. Plenty of other SSD vendors to buy from with better quality control.

These things are phenomenal!! I am extremely impressed. More than pleased with these sweet drives and i do love any Corsair product!! I love these things and i would love to get more of them for every system i own or use. However i am not made of money. They are still a little pricey but this i think is a pretty good price for the product and the size of the drive.

This was delivered pretty fast I couldn't wait to put this in my comp! Ive been using this for a while and its awesome! It wasn't as fast as I was expecting it to be, but hey im still thing a core 2 quad as opposed to the i7s so I can't wait to upgrade to that next. Maybe it will be lightning fast? Thank you very much!!!

I bought this product, for my laptop (macbook pro), after considering the Vertex 2, and the Crucial C300. I've been using it for about 3 weeks now, and it's fast, works well on windows and Mac (dual booting). At first I didn't think it was that fast, but then when I switch back, I realized just how consistently fast everything loads. Boot up times are not as fast as I had dreamed them up to be..
Installation was a breeze. |
