Solid component, but not for a wimpy case...,

This power supply is built like a tank. Both the PSU itself and the modular cables are of top quality. The PSU fan is oversized and very quiet. At 1000W, this power supply should be big enough to do anything except maybe tri-SLI with top of the line video cards.
Two potential problems to look for before buying: - One is that this PSU is longer than the usual ATX power supply. In my Cooler Master mid-tower case, I had to drill extra ventilation holes in my case's floor and remove one case fan to accommodate this beast. Just measure inside your case to see if this PSU will fit before you buy. (This PSU is 200mm long; by comparison, the Corsair 520W PSU is only 150mm.) - The other is that the included SATA power cables do not have angled SATA connectors, so I was unable to use them in my Cooler Master case, which mounts the HDDs in the transverse direction. (I used the modular PCI cable with an angled SATA adapter instead.) But, if you check on those two things before buying, you will definitely be satisfied with this PSU.

I've been running a custom built Core i7 920 CPU-equipped computer @ 4.2Ghz (4210Mhz) & 100% Load 24/7 since May, 2009 with a Corsair HX1000 PSU in control of the power needs of the system, and it's been working perfect all that time, never skipped a beat. It's certainly the finest, most powerful and dependable 1KW-rated (1000+Watt) power supply that good money can buy.
My build's key components are: EVGA-Classified E760 motherboard, EVGA GTX-285 1GB VRAM Video Cards x 2 in SLI, 12GB G. Skill DDR3 1600Mhz 'Purple Wonders' RAM, Creative Titanium "Fatal1ty" Sound Blaster Pro, and a real "sleeper" component that's responsible for incredible HD read and write I/O performance, an Areca 1680IX-8 Hardware RAID Controller (SAS to eSATA/SATA), and 6 WD 'Black' 1TB 7200RPM HD's in 2TB RAID "0" and 4TB RAID "5" configurations--so my Corsair HX1000 PSU hasn't had it easy with all that firepower to supply, but day in and day out it works hard, and long, and I have had ZERO difficulties with it...it just works perfect, and gives me all the power I need without fail, which is all you could ask for from a premium PSU. I really love the modular design of the HX1000 because it makes building and maintaining a system simple, clean, and pretty nice to look at too, as there aren't a bunch of extra cables and wiring messing up the airflow and cluttering up the computer's inner workings, a real plus in my book. Another plus for this HX1000 system is the number and type of cables furnished, which is a HUGE supply of power cables (both SATA and Molex), SATA cables and connectors, an IDE/ATA 100 80-wire cable for any legacy devices, and most important for my setup is the "kit" includes a 2nd 8-pin power connector cable for power to the CPU module, as the EVGA Classified E760 motherboard has TWO (2) CONNECTORS from the PSU to the CPU, a unique feature of the EVGA boards which enables extreme overclocking with an extra boost of pure PSU power, so I didn't have to go out and purchase a 2nd cable for the CPU power supply, a most welcome feature! In addition the length of the flat power plug-in cables and the main power cables is long enough so that I can tuck all of them underneath the motherboard or out the back of my HAF 932 case/enclosure for a very clean and organized cable system, a benefit that doesn't take a lot of special engineering, but it does take a PSU manufacturer who knows that the length of those cables is critical and one of the most important considerations for a builder, or the consumer who needs extra length cables to make the build "work". If the cables are too short to be routed strategically in the case it can end up to be a total train wreck--it will also look terrible, and impede airflow to a huge degree. So Thank You Corsair, for making the main cables plenty long enough to be tucked behind, and underneath the motherboard, and for the CPU cables to reach their respective plugs, a very cool, nice feature! The only maintenance I've done to my HX1000 is to blow out the fan assembly with an air compressor at about 140PSI, just to keep things clean and working great, as my studio (where the computer resides) has a couple large parrots in the mix, and they can make things a bit 'dusty' shall I say, so the computer and the individual components need to be cleaned up, especially the fans, every couple of weeks. That is my only problem/issue with anything in my case that uses a fan, and of course the case itself with its many vents and airways needs cleaning and clearing up periodically without fail. That is just an aside to the HX1000's performance, because it has been nothing short of spectacular ever since I installed it and finished my build, and lit it up, and getting it to run great @ 4.2Ghz (4210Mhz)! With 12GB RAM and an overclock to 4.2Ghz, and twin EVGA GTX-285 SuperClocked video cards in SLI mode drawing all kinds of power, not to mention 6 power-hungry Western Digital "Black" 1TB HD's (each of which can use up to 15-16W each at peak read and write performance), the PSU has had its work cut out for it since the build was put online last May, and it continues to work 100% perfect for me, and I have no doubt that it will continue to function at peak efficiency for many years to come. The limited Lifetime warranty (that's what I have, which applied when my PSU was sold) helps my confidence with this PSU, and Corsair Tech Support is legendary for resolving any issues and replacing components when necessary (I have had a couple RAM-related replacements there and they were always 1st Class with me, and handled things quickly) so I think if anything bad happens I am covered, and covered well. What strikes me heavy and big is this PSU's overall performance, and it's seamless, sort of "behind the scenes" backup of my premium equipment that it does every second that my computer is "On" and working @ another Folding@Home unit, or doing a movie or music graphics assignment, whatever I am doing the Corsair HX1000 is there doing its best to make sure that my machine has all the power it needs, and a nice reserve of power for safety margins. I am using Corsair HX750's in two other builds that don't have the power demands of my big PC No.1 with all that RAM and video cards in SLI, a CPU pulling down 250W-300W itself at its high overclocking, and twin RAID setups to feed with power and energy, so I am a believer in the Corsair modular PSU's, and use them exclusively in my personal builds, and for those that I make for others also. There is no substitute for a great power supply, I mean it's so necessary to have such a thing in your computers that there's no sense on risking anything with an inferior or edgy brand or type of PSU, so I stick with the proven, steadfast, reliable-to-the-end-of-time Corsair Professional Modular PSU's come Hell or High Water, and there is nothing that will ever be in my builds but the Corsair brand of PSU, one type or another, that's all that I will invest in, end of story. I needed to upgrade my previous 750watt PSU so I could power 3 GTX 275's in tri-sli. This Corsair PSU allows me to do just that.
Pros: Arrived fast. Powerful yet quiet, more so than my old 750 watt Cooler Master PSU. Runs cool. Nice modular cabling design saves space and provides better airflow. Has plenty of power to run multiple GPU setups. Cons: The only problem I have with this PSU is that sometimes when the computer is off the PSU seems to make a low volume high pitched noise. Though it is barely noticeable. It is powering this system: EVGA X58. Intel Core i7 920 @ 3.6 GHz. 12GB OCZ DDR3 PC3-12800 Platinum Ram. 3X Nvidia GTX 275. 3X 500GB WD5000AAKS in Raid 1 for storage. 2x OCZ SSDs in Raid 0 for OS/Games. TV Tuner Card. 2 Optical Drives. At least 8 Fans. And some other smaller peripherals.
