Product Description

Size: 860 Watt

Product Description

The fully modular Corsair AX860i uses a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) for tighter voltage regulation, which improves overall system stability, and increases performance to 80 PLUS Platinum levels. Built-in Corsair Link gives you unprecedented monitoring and control. Upgrading to digital provides increased efficiency. The AX860i is certified 80 PLUS Platinum, which results in lower heat generation and a quieter fan profile. The AX860i is so efficient that the 120mm fan doesn’t even spin at low loads for completely noiseless power delivery. The built-in Corsair Link functionality allows you to know how well your AX860i is working at any given moment and lets you quickly tweak its performance. Server-inspired diagnostic tools monitor real-time efficiency, power usage, configurable over-current protection points and fan profiles

From the Manufacturer

The revolutionary AXi Series PSUs are the first desktop PC power supplies to use digital (DSP) control and Corsair Link to bring you an unprecedented level of monitoring and performance customization. The DSP in the AX860i makes on-the-fly adjustments for incredibly tight voltage regulation, 80 PLUS Platinum Efficiency, and clean, stable power.

Overview

Real-time monitoring and control with Corsair Link

Put the AX860i under your control by connecting it directly to a USB header on your motherboard with the included cable, or to a Corsair Link Commander (available separately). Then, download the free Corsair Link Dashboard software for unrivaled power supply monitoring and control options.

AX860i software
Monitor and control your AX860i with Corsair Link Dashboard (larger image)

Monitor power input and output, efficiency, fan speed, and internal temperature, directly from the Windows based application. Or, take it to the next level and set up and modify fan speed profiles, or even select from virtual “single rail” or “multi-rail” software modes, with selectable OCP points.

Stable and Reliable Power Delivery

DSP-controlled, real-time voltage regulation helps ensure that your valuable components receive clean, stable power.

Less Heat and Lower Operating Cost

AX860i's extreme efficiency earns it coveted 80 PLUS Platinum certification. Less wasted power means minimal excess heat. This can reduce the strain on your other components, and it can save you money over the long run in the form of lower power bills.

Quiet Operation at low loads

Super-high efficiency has another benefit: silence. The thermally-controlled fan doesn't even spin at low loads. It's ideal if you're building a quiet PC or you just want to reduce the amount of ambient noise in your life.

Easy installation and cable routing, with better airflow

The fully modular cable set allows you to use only the cables you need, and the flat design makes cable routing much easier in tight spaces. You get a clean-looking system build with cables out of the airflow path for efficient space usage that's energy efficient as well.

Features

Zero RPM logo

An ultra-quiet, 140mm double ball-bearing fan delivers excellent airflow with exceptionally low noise levels by varying fan speed in response to temperature.

The AX860i is so efficient that the fan doesn't spin up until you're pushing your system hard. And, fan speed thresholds can be adjusted with Corsair Link.

Are you used to checking to see if the fan spins to verify if your power supply is working? No worries. AX860i has a self-test switch to verify proper functionality before you install.

Background:
My system went through an upgrade around a year ago and I did not upgrade my PSU because I thought it was working fine. Well for the last year I was having random problems (wonky crossfire, low power USB ports, starting up issues). I figured it had to do with my new components, but after buying the 760i for its efficiency, fully modular capabilities, and quietness I never thought it would fix the rest of my system. Now everything is operating fine, and my problems were related to my old brand X power supply.

Positives:
Completely modular- Most "modular" power supplies still have a few non-modular cords that can be quite annoying when you are trying to rearrange the cables in your case, but this one is completely modular.

Plenty of cables- a lot modular PSUs come with cables that are too short or too few. The cables included with the 760i are plenty long enough and I have quite a few extra for when I add components in the future.

Excellent build quality- the quality of the cables feel top notch, sometimes modular cables can feel pretty cheap. The PSU also has some heft to it.
Quiet/Power efficiency- one of my main positives of this PSU is how quiet and power efficient it is. I have a gaming "htpc" and while it is quite powerful I need it to be as quiet as possible. I am unable to hear the fan over the rest of my case when it kicks on during times of stress. I also leave it on most hours of the day so the power efficiency is very important to me.

Software: Comes with a system monitor, one of the nicest things about this monitor is the ability to see how many watts you are pulling and your efficiency. You can also log just about every aspect of your system from your GFX card temp to the power being drawn by your 3rd hard drive.

Summary:
Great PSU if it lasted. Less than 60 days of usage, the PSU is now dead with the self-test light being red every time the system is turned on. After going through troubleshooting steps to confirm that the PSU is totally dead, requested a replacement on Corsair site. Received a quick automatic reply to sent the PSU in to Corsair for replacement and that they will send the replacement 2-3 days after they received. Sent in to Corsair for replacement. It is now 14 days after the day the PSU arriving at Corsair (had tracking on it) and no word from RMA department. Had to call to ask for an update and told me that they had no replacement available. Big disappointment for a company well-known not to have replacements in stock plus not notifying customers at all.

Packaging: 5/5
Packaging is great. It's what you expect from a high end PSU. You pay what you get for.

Installation: 5/5
Simple. Modular cables are a blessing.

Features/Performance: 5/5
Every ran well without an hiccups until the day it died. At least the self-test LED light told me it had problems.

Quality: 1/5
Didn't last more than 60 days which is disappointing. I have the AX1200 bought 2-3 years ago and till this day, it is still running. No problems whatsoever.

Customer Support: 2/5
No update after 17 days after submitting a RMA request with Corsair. Had to call Customer Service to ask them what happened and why wasn't a replacement was sent. The customer service rep was able to supply a loaner, a HX1050, but still to go through the trouble of having to install it and remove when (and if) the replacement comes in. Very disappointing.

I bought this power supply for a really high components. Spent over $2800 in parts. Hooked up eveything turn on the computer and blow the components. The whole room had smoke. Called corsair and did a damage claim. The guy i spoke to on the phone said it would only take 3 day turn around but after 2 weeks they just got back to me saying that after their testing they found out it was a damaged power supply.
They only want to give me very little money for all the damaged parts. They said it was not replacement value but only depreciation value. I explained to them they are all brand new parts. They said if you buy a brand new car as soon as you drive off the lot you cant sell it for that price. I couldnt believe they would say something like that after their unit damaged my brand new parts. I am still dealing with the damage claim i will update my review after.

This power supply is awesome, and the real time feedback on how much draw my components have is invaluable for planning purposes, such as calculating draw for UPS or looking for a flaw in one of your components.

This power supply has plenty of power for any high end graphics card (maybe 2 if you're into that sort of thing). With a single gtx 780 and an overclocked 4770k I've never heard the fan come on at all. The motherboard reports the 12v rail at 12.000v exactly and the 5 v at 5.000 exactly. the 3.3v is almost perfect as well at 3.296v. The included link software is the only slight weakness. It detects my ax860i as an ax760i and it is a bit clunky to work with when used with this power supply and the h100i cpu cooler. Its not cheap and the software isnt perfect, but this is a very solid piece of hardware.
