Product Description

Style: M45 5000 DPI optical sensor

The Corsair Raptor M45 Optical Gaming Mouse offers an optical sensor to calibrate the mouse to any surface for outstanding tracking. It features a high-mass scrolling wheel for more precision while jumping or selecting and using weapons. Its adjustable DPI allows you to navigate smoothly through different applications.

From the Manufacturer

Programmable optical gaming mouse with adjustable weight system

Corsair Raptor M45 is designed for gaming performance. A powerful gaming-tuned 5,000 DPI optical sensor, fast response time, extra-large PTFE glide pads, and a high-mass scroll wheel put you in command. You can customize it to your play style with the adjustable weight system, and seven programmable buttons put macros and other critical gaming functions just a click away.

Instant DPI switching lets you toggle between high sensor resolution for fast motion, and low resolution for super-accurate aiming. And since serious gamers play for hours at a time, the M45 has a comfortable right-handed design with textured and soft-touch surfaces.

Optimize it for your game

The adjustable weight system features three adjustable tuning zones allow you to customize the mouse weight and balance for your playing style.

The PixArt 5,000 DPI optical sensor delivers outstanding precision for FPS gaming and the extra-large low friction PTFE glide pads have more contact surface area, feels better, and provides better control.

Programmable features with portability

Customize your gaming experience even further with the Control Panel software that lets you assign keystrokes to mouse buttons, create and assign complex macros, adjust the default DPI values, and more.

Assign critical game functions to the seven programmable buttons on the M45 for faster response and control.

Save macros and programmable buttons directly to the M45 and take them with you when you play on other PCs.

Engineered for speed and comfort

The 1000Hz response time delivers the ability to respond to the slightest hand movement a thousand times a second; the M45 can keep up with the fastest players.

The high-mass scroll wheel delivers a precision feel for weapon selection and jumping.

Quickly adjust sensor resolution instantly when you bounce between applications and games, and select the optimal sensitivity for each weapon. The indicator LED provides visual confirmation of your sensor resolution setting.

The right-handed design has a soft-touch finish, a rubber thumb grip, and a low-friction braided cable to deliver hours of comfortable gaming.

System Requirements

  • Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Vista, or Windows XP

I've owned 3 different gaming mice over the past two years and this one is easily my favorite. I've owned the Mamba 2012 edition from razer, the Sensei mlg edition from steel series, and recently the Zeus from gamdias and this mouse feels higher quality than all of those despite being only half the price. I was looking for a new mouse to pair with my Corsair k70 because the sensei was a bit small for me. I bought the Zeus from gamdias and the strange shape on the right side of the mouse made it uncomfortable for me so I returned it. I picked up the m40 after seeing it at fry's because it fit perfectly in my palm and I wanted red lighting to match my k70.

Pros:
The sandpaper-like grip on the sides took me two days to get used to, they don't really feel that rough now and as someone who's hands sweat alot while playing games this definitely helps with accuracy.
The high mass scroll wheel feels much better to scroll on than my other mice.
The soft rubbery texture feels much better than the plastic Sensei and Zeus.
Adjustable weights like the zeus, although it feels perfect for me with all of them in.
The placement of the pads on the bottom makes for a much smoother glide than the other mice I have used. Within the first few minutes of using it I knew I found the mouse i've been looking for since I bought the razer back in early 2012.

Cons:
4000 dpi sensor, as someone who has never needed to go above 3300 dpi I don't see this being that big of an issue.
The two buttons on the sides although customize-able are harder to use for gaming situations than all of the other mice that I have used. You can reach the back button with ease, but trying to reach the front button is a bit difficult, and I have large-ish hands.

UPDATE:
2 months in and my review stands. The mouse IS showing a bit of wear, but not where I would have expected.... The soft-touch texture on top has held up PERFECTLY. I am VERY hard on this mouse, and use it on avg no less than 3 hours a day.

The grippy texture on the sides however, has started to wear away on the thumb rest. As stated in my review, I use a pretty standard claw-grip, and my thumb is moving a LOT. Aesthetically, it cannot be seen from anywhere but a most close-up view of the thumb rest itself.

The braiding on the cable is holding up nicely, and the scrollwheel (which I ABUSE) still functions as well as it did on day one. For the record, I wash my hands before sitting down at the pc, and I make a habit of not eating while in the office. Not sure how well the wheel would hold up under the duress of crumbs.

Performance wise, the mouse still functions as well as it did day one, and the software (THOUGH ALWAYS RUNNING ) has actually grown on me and uses essentially 0 resources.

STILL A SAFE BET HERE!!!!

I have burned through many a mouse, in the last 2 decades of pc use/gaming. In that time, I have come to realize a few truths/ things about myself....

1. I prefer a claw-style grip whether browsing OR gaming. Take it or leave it, it's the kind of thing that gives some people a cramp just THINKING about it.

2. I am not a fan of "soft touch" surfaces, much like the one on this mouse. I find that over time they wear away (some sooner than others) leaving a shiny surface that is not only aesthetically displeasing but to the touch as well.

3.

What a beautiful mouse. Has everything you will ever need for the average user. This isn't an MMO mouse or anything so don't expect myriad buttons and access to those kinds of features. It does have an extensive macro system though, and the features on the new firmware are pretty decent for this price range. At any rate mouse enthusiasts usually know what their mouses are for.

The side pads as many have said have a sweet feeling sandpaper-like compound... BUT this doesn't last as long as one would like for the thumb position IF you use the mouse a lot. MANY mice today use that decrepit shiny and sticky plastic for where your thumb/pinky finger goes...

The feeling after this compound wears down is akin to a slightly stickier plastic. I wish the normal sandpaper feel had been able to keep itself for at least 6 months. But this is still much better than my last mouse in feel and touch. I love the overall design of it.

I don't really like the sharp buttons on the left side. Your mileage will vary here for these issues. For regular, possibly infrequent users this mouse is 5 stars easily. What I really don't understand is why have a material different than the naturally wicking rubber compound of the clickers? I'm just grateful they didn't go with that shiny stuff CM used on my Havoc.

Anyway, I updated firmware and installed software in 2 minutes. While not quite the extensive system of options that CM has, this mouse for the time being has topped my old Havoc which had the aforementioned sticky plastic problem requiring tape. Otherwise I think CM's software is better and allows a lot more functionality with LEDs for one.

I am not sure what the native specs are on the DPI sensor but I use about 900 on my desktop and it feels about perfect.
