Product Description

From the Manufacturer

Get more SSD capacity for your money with a Nova Series 2 boot drive

Nova Series 2 SSD
The 60GB unformatted capacity is ideal for use as a boot drive.

Nova Series 2 offers solid-state drive performance at an attractive price. The 60GB capacity makes it ideal for use as a boot drive, working in tandem with a second hard drive.

Take the quantum leap to SSD speed

The performance difference you can get by moving from an old-fashioned mechanical hard drive to a solid-state drive is nothing less than revolutionary. Your system boots faster and applications and large files load more quickly, so you can spend less time waiting and more time working... or playing.

The price that's right

Nova Series 2 gives you more SSD boot drive capacity for your money. SSD upgrades shouldn't be reserved just for high-end systems. Virtually any PC's performance can be dramatically improved with an SSD boot drive, and the economical Nova Series 2 helps make that possible.

Corsair SSDs: Designed for Performance and Durability

TRIM Support

Nova Series 2 SSDs feature support for the Windows® 7 TRIM command. This allows for efficient drive optimization to ensure the fastest possible read and write speeds.

Reliability

Because SSDs have no moving parts, they can handle shock, vibration and temperature changes far in excess of traditional hard drives. That's important for desktop PCs, and essential for notebooks.

Cool and Quiet, with Low Power Consumption

Traditional mechanical hard drives spin at thousands of revolutions per minute. This takes power, and generates noise and heat. Since SSDs have no moving parts, there's no noise or vibration, and the lower power consumption helps keep things cool inside your PC.

I used this SSD drive to refurbish a MacBook with excellent results. The drive is fast and obviously, makes no noise when operating. The drive is quite lightweight and power consumption of the laptop is now a bit better. Still have no solid benchmarks, but it's definitely 10% better or perhaps even more. Heat dissipation seems to be also a little lower than before, although the dominant factor for this are the CPU cores.

The drive's case is all plastic and seems solid enough. It certainly is more robust than a traditional hard drive.

I'm concerned with the life expectancy of the SSD drive, as cells will fail after so many write operations. However the drive supports SMART and Mac OS X seems to be able to read this information. I assume the OS will give me a warning with enough time to buy another drive, which will most likely be another SSD.

Overall, I'm happy with this drive. Note that I chose this specifically because the laptop could not handle a faster interface. Make sure you get the fastest interface that your computer will handle, to fully realize the performance benefits. At the time of this writing there are other models, from the same manufacturer, that carry faster SATA interfaces.

Very happy with this drive - so much hype around Sata III, and really this drive does the job for my system.
Great boot times for windows very happy with the speed and perfromance gain for my PC.

I got this drive a couple of months ago from a local vendor but I am a regular Amazon customer...

I RMA'd it about a week after normal usage the issue started to appear. I just got a new drive back from them. and after about 1-2 days of good usage on my new system, I'm going to start my 2nd RMA....

The problem is disk response time. I've seen response time delays for read/writes up to 4000ms. It makes doing anything on the computer a horrible experience since applications and the operating system constantly access/write to the drive. It's like trying to listen to someone give a speech, but they are randomly pausing mid-sentence for 1-4 seconds gaps at a time. I've tried it on a few diff computers/configurations, all have the same problem. Do a google search for "corsair nova 60 slowness lag" and see for yourself, there are a lot of others with the same issue. I haven't seen a response from anyone at Corsair and with this many people having the same issue, one would think they could have come up with a fix by now or at least address the issue.

I've been a Corsair customer for a while and I bought this on a whim given the name of brand. Well, I should have researched it first. I wish I would have just paid a little bit more and bought a Samsung or Intel SSD from Amazon because this was just a waste of my time and money. It hasn't given me any reliable performance since I bought it and they is just going to waste my time by sending me the same flawed drive.

The hard drive just came in today, and I must admit, I'm impressed. I just wanted to experience an SSD without actually breaking the bank. It was the best price/space I could find, and it was a HUGE upgrade from your usual 7200rpm. I was hesitant at first about buying it since I thought the reason my computer wasn't that fast was because of the ram and processor. I was wrong. I recently upgraded to a core i7 from an amdx2 and the hard drive was the biggest improvement I noticed. Best investment ever. Don't wait, buy it now.

This drive will cause your entire system to hang without fail. Terrible sequential write speeds hinder its ability to function as a usable product.

I use this as a boot drive for my Windows 7 setup, formatted it in Fat32. Its not Sata III but it is still very quick at Sata II. After loading the OS, updates and system drivers there is still about 30GBs left for key applications. Its been going solid for about a month now and no complaints at all, I like Corsair products. This is a good solid state drive for a reasonable price.

So far I'm incredibly happy with this drive. I have only my Windows 7 OS and a game on the drive and it has been a dramatic improvement. 3.5 seconds from boot to windows log in screen is a wonderful thing indeed. Make sure to optimize your drive and don't be discouraged that its SATA II. I was apprehensive at first, but this drive suits my needs perfectly. I hope to eventually upgrade to an entire SSD system, but am not looking to break the bank yet.

For Windows users: I have to change this review. The SSD worked perfectly fine under Linux, but after some time I have decided to use it with Windows 8 upgrade. It is completely useless, either it is an incompatibility of driver and firmware, or something else. Cleaned it several times with newest version of DBAN. My ATTO, Crystal Disk, and HDD Tune results are terrible, I had to RMA the SSD - hopefully it is just a particular SSD failure.
Comparing to Patriot Pyro or SanDisk Extreme this SSD is not even close, for Linux users as well. It doesn't even have the firmware update. I would not recommend it to anyone.

UPDATE: I've got an RMA replacement for this SSD from Corsair (with 5.05 firmware instead of 1.0 version in the original one), and it is version CSSD-V60GB2A of the SSD (instead of the original CSSD-V60GB2). The results are way below the above mentioned SSD's result, but at least it works - significantly (like two times) slower comparing to results of the above mentioned competitors, but at least it is OK to use it old SATA 2 PCs.
