3.0 out of 5 stars Good Memory, 75% of the time...
Bought 8GB worth of this memory from another retailer earlier this year. One stick was dead out of the box. Bought another from Amazon as a replacement.

Used with an Asus P5KC motherboard, had to set the latency timings manually in order to get the full 800MHZ speed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent memory, October 10, 2009
This review is from: Corsair TWIN2X4096-6400C5C 4GB XMS2 PC2-6400 800Mhz 240-Pin Dual Channel DDR2 Desktop Memory (Personal Computers)
Pros: Appears well made; tailors itself to other memory installed; Corsair website helps to find the right memory for your computer

Cons: Rebate; expensive as compared to 6 mos ago - knocks off one star.
Thoughts: Have an AMD 9750 quad with 4 GB memory in slots #1-2 and wanted to go to 8GB. It is important to install compatible memory in the other slots - i.e. slots #3-4 were empty.

I have 64 bit Vista which can "see" 8GB of memory.

I searched through multiple sites to obtain quality memory and was not happy with the confusing results. I searched the Corsair website and they have a "memory search", where you enter your computer model and they give you matched memory that is guaranteed to work with your computer. Then it was easy to find what I needed. The result was the all my memory ran well and I can use all my 8 GB memory.

I don't mean to confuse those who are less technically inclined - the point is that all memory is not the same and to just stick any DDR2 memory into your computer will guarantee an unhappy end user. It is hard to match up the correct DDR2 memory without knowing a lot of hidden details and for most end users it is easier to just go to the memory manufacturer's website to look up compatible memory.

Overall: Very satisfied.

Technical stuff: AMD 9750 quad with 4 GB memory @ 800 MHz 6-6-6-18 timing, 1.8v in slots #1-2. 64 bit Vista OS which runs all 32 bit software I have thrown at it and can run old 16 bit software and DOS games with DosBox! Only a 64 bit OS can use more than about 3 GB memory. This Corsair 2GB x 2, dual channel, paired memory, with timings of 5-5-5-18,1.8v is faster memory than my original installed memory and I was concerned about the timings. The result was that all my memory runs at 667MHz and a timing 5-5-5-15, so it is very close to the original memory installed but not as fast as it can be. I do not intend to over clock and will not change out the slower memory because of cost concerns.

5.0 out of 5 stars This was an easy, not so expensive upgrade, May 21, 2010
This review is from: Corsair TWIN2X4096-6400C5C 4GB XMS2 PC2-6400 800Mhz 240-Pin Dual Channel DDR2 Desktop Memory (Personal Computers)
I got the Corsair when I upgraded my 4GB desktop to Vista 64-bit and not only it worked beautifully but it carried well into the 64-bit Windows 7 software upgrade. Installation was quick and uneventful and the computer recognized the new memory immediately. My computer appears to be performing significantly better post-upgrade. I've never had an issue with Corsair memory - I also used Corsair's DD3 to upgrade my laptop's RAM - and I'm likely to continue to consider their products in the future as they appear to be of good quality and performance.

Before ordering, you should make sure that this is EXACTLY what you need. This is DDR2 (two) memory. While DDR3 transfers at twice the data rate of DDR2, they are physically incompatible with DDR2 slots so you can't use the faster DDR3 memory on a DDR2 motherboard. You should also be aware that the amount of recognized available memory depends on the operating system and the way your computer is configured (BIOS) so you may not be able to use the all the memory in your system until you install a 64-bit OS and/or upgrade your BIOS.

My STRONG suggestion (I got burned myself once): don't make assumptions and hope for the best, verify that your specific machine supports this exact type of memory before you buy. Corsair has a site that can help you determine that and your computer manual should list its specs.

To me, it's an easy 5 stars.

Specs:

- Memory clock @ 200 MHz
- I/O bus clock @ 400 MHz
- Peak transfer rate: 6400 MB/s
- Cycle time: 5 ns
- Limited (what does it mean?) lifetime warranty but there is no warranty statement
- Made in Taiwan

Made a giant difference in my computers speed, as I see it saved me from buying a new computer. the difference was that much! I went from 1 gb to 5 gb with the 4 gb upgrade. You must know a little bit about computers to install yourself, otherwise plan on having the expense of having the geek squad or someone like that install for you. Glad I purchased, sad I waited so long till I finally bought the extra ram!

My only suggestion (not even a complaint) is that companies who sell quantities of RAM larger than 4GB make it much more clear to the consumers that they need to be running 64-bit Windows OS, because if they aren't, the memory will not be accessible. I had to reinstall my entire system, and I realize this is ENTIRELY my own fault. However, knowing that ahead of time, I probably would have waited until I had more spare time to make that OS change before purchasing the memory.

I'm very happy with the product, as well as the prompt delivery, and I gladly recommend this!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast and Stable Memory, March 7, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Corsair TWIN2X4096-6400C5C 4GB XMS2 PC2-6400 800Mhz 240-Pin Dual Channel DDR2 Desktop Memory (Personal Computers)
I bought 2 sets of these for an ASUS P5N-E SLI motherboard with an Intel E6600 dual core CPU, running 64 bit windows 7, for a total of 8 gb memory (4x2gb). I was running 4 gb (4x1gb) of OCZ DDR2667 that ran fine for most everything. I just wanted to extend the life of my system to still play the latest games without having to do a complete overhaul to an i5 or i7 processor and ddr3 memory. Someday, just not yet.

I did quite a bit of research. Originally I was going to go with one of the lesser brand names to save a couple bucks but I know how picky Asus boards can be when it comes to memory, so I went with the brand I have always associated with high performance gaming memory, Corsair, and I am glad I did. They may cost a little more than some of the other brands but the extra $$ is worth it. Peace of mind knowing you have the good stuff. The 20 dollar rebate is a nice bonus too.

They arrived well packaged in bubble wrap and not damaged, in 5 days with the free super saver shipping option. First thing I noticed as I took them out of the packaging was how they looked and felt. Sleek yet sturdy. The heat spreaders are not very thick or bulky but they cover most of the memory stick with the exception of the contacts. I posted 2 pics on how these look in my case on the motherboard. Very easy to install. I booted into the bios to make sure that all 8 gb were recognized @ 800 mhz, and I did not have to change any timings or voltage (it's probably a good idea to make sure you have the latest bios update before installing these). My games now run noticeably smoother. 64 bit Windows 7 loves more memory and if you're looking for 800 mhz DDR2 memory, get these before they are gone!

Just an FYI I am playing Rift, EQ2, Lotro, Half Life 2, STALKER, and other assorted online and offline games.

I bought this RAM for use with an Intel DG45ID, and I have had absolutely zero issues with it - and you can't beat the lifetime warranty. I like the heat sinks: they are effective without being oversized or gaudy. While the Corsair name costs a little extra, based on my experience, I would readily recommend this RAM to anyone whose motherboard has it on the compatibility list.

I wanted to maximize the memory to allow for faster performance with all the additional software programs running on our computer. I increased memory from the factory 2GB to 8GB with Corsair memory. Installation was very easy and the results were well worth the money.
As a result of this experience I'm also upgrading memory in another pc and three laptops.

Bought to upgrade my custom built PC. Installed in a snap, booted fine, used memtest and memtest+ and it passed with flying colors! Hope to get [...] back quickly, but Corsairs always been good for that in the past. Highly recommend to others, especially if you need RAM at low voltages.
