First of all, this is not solely a gaming mouse, so if you don't do a ton of gaming, this mouse could still be for you. It is all around awesome. My entire family loves it. Write out of the box, it has quality written all over it. The chord has a nice braided sleeve which will prevent wire cracking and is a good length (enough to make it around my desk, two computers and into my kvm switch). It has a nice sturdy feel. The top of the mouse is smooth. It is not a slick plastic, but a matte black material that has a nice feel and grip. The sides of the mouse are the same but a bit more rough for a better grip, feels sort of like a very fine sand papery feel, but in a very good way. The left side of the mouse has very nice support, it cradles the thumb. The scroll wheel is solid, and has a nice feel (a middle click is a bit stiff compared to generic mouses). The two side buttons above the sniper button are nice (they come out of the box as forward backwards buttons). You can download a nice piece of software form the corsair website that lets you customize the whole mouse, from turning on and off the blue LED to changing the sniper button dpi.
It makes a big difference having a nice mouse like this when gaming, especially with all the nice features it has like lift detection and programmable buttons. Gaming with this mouse is great.

I prefer a middle click that takes a little less force, but it's bearable

Overall, the mouse is awesome. I love how it feels. The form fits nicely into the hand and my hands are somewhat large. For my first gaming mouse, it is a winner.

Still 3 stars but for different reasons.

A couple of weeks ago IE started to scroll "on its own". A week later it became clear that the mouse wheel was reporting use when there was none and none when there was some. Tried blowing it clean . . . no change, the scroll wheel was no longer functional. Emailed Corsair and they said to file for an RMA.

In the meantime, I really need the levels of dpi control this mouse provides for use in World of Tanks, WoW, and photo editing. So I found myself in the odd position of buying a new one (M65) to use while the "old" M60 is sent to Corsair for r/r under the 2 year warranty.

As of this date the software and mouse documentation has improved significantly. It still must be downloaded, but that alone is no big deal and probably the right way to go to avoid old software in the box.

My rating would change to 5 stars if the M60 had not broken after 1 year of reasonable use. So it remains at 3 stars. YMMV.

I've used Logitech and Ideazon/SteelSeries mice, keyboards, keypads, headsets and programmed their macro keys with gaming and utility macros for many years. Here's my ratings/rationale for the components of the M60 mouse:

Hardware: 5 stars

The hardware is sleek, elegant, and exhibits excellent build quality. It's really quite nice and these features are adequately covered in other reviews here

Software: 3 stars

The software actually provides some new capabilities in macro programming, and new features such as the ability to test the surface your mouse rides on to show you how well the mouse can sense movement.

However, the software is neither provided (you must download it) nor intuitive.... Worse, NO documentation is provided, not even within the software zip file download package. There is no Help, no tool tips, and the "Help" function in the software brings you to a web page that is nothing more than an FAQ for all of the Vengeance keyboards and mice. In the FAQ the only M60-relevant question is "Can all of the M60/90 keys be reprogrammed?" The answer given is "Yes, with the software provided". I really did laugh out loud :)

In order to program a key for (eg) a Ventrilo PTT key (I use "~") you actually must:

- Select the "Assign Buttons" Tab
- Click "Delay Options" and check box "Ignore Delays"
- Click "Playback Options"
- Click on the 3rd of four internationally icon'd option buttons (there is no tool tip on mouse hover, but it means "repeat while held")
- Click on "MR". It begins to blink.
- Click on a button number shown on the mouse picture to select the target button
- Press "~" on your keyboard"
- Click on MR to stop macro recording.
- Right click on the "Button Up" line in the macro, and choose "Delete" from the context menu.
- Click "Hardware PlaybacK" so the macro will run from the mouse, not from software.
- Select the "Manage Profiles" tab
- Click "Save to M60"

It gets more complicated if you have multiple Profiles. While overall use of the software isn't impossible, it is very much impossible WITHOUT DOCUMENTATION.

No documentation is provided with the mouse, nor in the software download. I couldn't find an M60 manual online; the best I could find is an M90 User Manual that is very useful (actually indispensable) as a stand-in.

I bought this mouse for use in FPS games specifically for a couple of macros and the "Sniper" button. I really like it, and the software is really very powerful. But I'd advise you not to buy this mouse AT THIS TIME if you are easily frustrated.

If you do decide to buy it, plug in your mouse first and then use your favorite search engine to find the Corsair Support Forums. Go to the Corsair Product Discussion/Keyboards and Mice section. There you will find "Sticky" posts for downloading the latest software, downloading the M90 Manual, and Setting up voice chat with M60/M90. (The voice chat post is worth reading even if you do not use voice chat because it shows you how to accomplish some things in macros you might not ever figure out on your own :) )

Then dl/install the software, and begin the learning process. You *will* enjoy the mouse, and I'm sure Corsair will get things right over time. Read more ›

I've had six copies of the same mouse, Creative Fatal1ty 2020 Laser Gaming Mouse ( 7300000000422 ) since 2004 which attributed to my clawish fingertip grip of 3 fingers flat up top, wrist off the table, claw thumb and relaxed pinkie. Unfortunately the 2020 had a lot of issues with the switches and the LMB would go out after a couple of months of CS:S. I was on my last copy and got this mouse as a gift.

Even though it broke frequently, I've always been happy with my previous mouse. They just don't make it nowadays and I felt that needed a little higher DPI for running 5760x1080.

I like peripherals a lot and I've purchased too many other mice designs from Logitech, Razer, Microsoft, and most recently the Cyborg Gaming Mouse for PC. Nothing fit right or their tracking was off or the buttons were too far forward. Until now, the old 2020 mouse just kept winning me over all other products.

Regardless of how many adjustments the Cyborg mouse had it did not have the odd grip that I was looking for. This mouse has no special moving parts. Nothing to worry about or lose other than the weights.

Physical properties and tracking are the two main things I look for in a mouse.

The Corsair M60 has about the same shape as my previous mouse, less the third mouse button on the right and the palm being a little farther back. It's still about the angle in how I hold the mouse. There is just enough comfortable space for my right ring finger to sit in the far right groove without impeding my right click....

Speaking of which, I'm very pleased about the definite and easy mouse clicks from high up on the mouse with solid but little effort. Middle mouse button is a little stiffer than LMB and RMB and it's wheel movement feels intentional.

The laser is great and tracks my arm and wrist physics precisely with zero travelling. It moves precisely where I want it to. 1 inch on my plain white tile turns my character the same every time I move across it. It doesn't get any better. I've experienced zero skips and lag. The cabling and plug are sturdy. The weights are can be adjusted very easily, however I wish there were more places to place them.

The sniper button is too far forward for my style and I've opted to use the back button (MOUSE4) as my fast weapon switch. It clicks very fast with a quick thumb swipe up. I do not use the sniper button's functionality to slow down dpi. I did not have any driver issues with this feature.

The software seems OK, nothing too great or too bad about it. Your standard features as in DPI setting, independent XY, polling rate, lift height and command assignment. The only thing I wish this software had was the ability to change the mouse angle... but that's 1% of what I look for in a mouse. The surface quality indicator is a nice touch.

This mouse feels very solid and the switches feel durable. I'd buy six of these in a heartbeat, but I doubt that I will need to.

Win 7 64 bit. Downloaded 12/22/11 drivers. Not a single hiccup and plays very well. Seemed just as good without the drivers/software. Read more ›
