I recently purchased a refurbished Cortelco phone for a second house after being unable to find one like my old Western Electric 2500D I've had for 30 years. This phone has a similar appearance but is much lighter weight than a Western Electric, mainly in the steel base. The facing around the keypad is a thin piece of plastic resting on a ledge and held in place by a spring clip at the top of the face. The parts inside are similar but not identical with a Western Electric. The shell is interchangeble with a Western Electric base. The telephone function is good, being similar except for the volume knob on the base which is plastic instead of heavy steel. One advantage, the volume knob can turn the ringer completely off if needed.
