Horrible screw-up from a respected company..., November 26, 2011
This review is from: Corvette, 1963-83 (Chilton's Repair & Tune-Up Guides) (Paperback)
Okay, so the book clearly states that this is for 1963-83 Corvettes...inside, you'll find dozens of photos and specs most prominently featured for, yep, 1984 Corvettes. The tip-off that this book is BAD is that there was no 1983 Corvette...unless you happen to count the 44 units that were never released to the public with a "1983 VIN."
Anybody interested in a C2 or C3 "repair manual," will be well-advised to keep looking. Perhaps try the Haynes versions, which are readily available on Amazon [...].
I bought this book because I received a C3 car in several boxes, mostly without bolts and definitely taken apart with apparent randomness. This is a situation where photos can really help. However, many if not most of the pertinent photos are (supposedly) of a 1984 C4. I couldn't find a single section that didn't have a 1984 photo and/or detailed description.
To its credit, there are a good number of photos and descriptions related to the "correct" model years, but they seem to take a back-seat to the 1984. Something else that is annoying? Sometimes metric values are featured before imperial values in things like torque figures. While I realize that the metric system is becoming increasingly more standard in the USA (and likely it should), we don't fix up "old cars" in the USA on the metric system. Obviously, this statement has a shelf-life and this particular book's shelf-life was far past its "born on date" before it ever hit the street.
I'd say that its best use is as a dampener for hammering bearing dirt covers back on without resorting to going to the toolbox for a rubber mallet. At least, it does that effectively. As always, your mileage may vary...
