This product was recommended to me specifically by my orthopedist following injections for my arthritic knees. I find it works better than the different brands of glucosamine/chondroitin I'd been taking for about a year on advice of my regular doctor. Taking two capsules a day after a few months (rather than three)is a true convenience and easier to remember in my schedule. The capsules are very easy to swallow.

I think that this is the best glucosamine product on the market, but the supplier offered double dose version for about the same price as the normal dose and then shipped the regular version. I won't use them again.

Several months ago I had laparoscopic knee surgery to repair a torn cartilege. I am a female imy upper fifties, and physically fit from exercise. I was concerned that as a result of this knee surgery, I would not have the strength in my knee that I have always taken for granted. My surgeon recommended this product to help build up and strengthen the existing cartilage. I have found the Cousamin DS to be a wonderful product and I am very confident that it has contributed to the overall health of my knee. I highly recommend it BEFORE and AFTER you have to have any knee surgery!

I have tried a handful of brands/types over the years. This product is the best of all of them.

I've used products with/without MSM, with different ratios of chondroitin and glucosamine. In each case I 'ramped' the beginning dosage per instructions..then gauged the effect overall by stopping the use of the product.

Cosamin DS230 works considerably better than any other product I tried. I take it for knee join pain..both knees injured to the extent of complete multiple ligament failure. The difference with this product is from having pain all the time with every step (not taking it) to no pain at all. I won't be doing any more mountain climbing..it's not a miracle cure. Hiking with a 50-65lb pack isn't in the cards, but it is nice to be able to WALK without wincing with every step.

The capsules of this product are far superior to some of the pills (too large..too hard to swallow) of the other brands, too.

My sister and I both use this product and find that it is the best of its
type on the market. We tried cheaper brands, but have since returned to
this product to help control the wear and tear of our joints due to
arthrits.

As a physician, I've looked into this and other products. This is the best one (most proved), HOWEVER, there is a caution I must give you. All the experiments seem to point to taking 2,000 mg of Glucosamine per day as being about the right amount to take to reverse cartilage deterioration and reduce pain. However, if you take 3 capsule of this per day you will 1) get only 1,500 mg per day, YET 2) get a toxic dose of Manganese ! I really believe the amount of manganese in this product is Way too much for someone to safely take 3 capsules per day for months and years on end. It will not poison you immediately, but over a period of years I think it could be dangerous.

Here is what I do instead: Take One (1) capsule of this per day, then take another 3 capsules of another cheaper glucosamine supplement that has 500 mg of glucosamine. That way you get the full 2,000 mg you need, plus you reduce you risk of manganese over-exposure by a factor of 3. If this is still too much, you could take one of these every-other-day to reduce it further, but likely one per day is safe.

Also, I would recommend you not waste your money on other products that tout how great they are because they have both glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate in them. You absorb around 94 or 96% of the glucosamine, however, the amount of chondroitin you absorb is around 6%, so I doubt that is doing you much good. I'd just stick to buying straight glucosamine, it's a lot cheaper that way and probably just as good. Personally the brand I use is the vegan version which is manufactured by DEVA. Love this product. Everything I was hoping for. After a month of use, I can tell a huge difference!

About three and a half years ago I significantly increased my weekly running from about 9 miles to 25 miles. I immediately felt it in my knees. I read about this product and ordered it. I have been taking it every day together with an MSM supplement, and stopped having pain in my knees about a month after I started taking it. Based on my research, this was the most effective supplement, and for me it worked.

I take three capsules a day (as opposed to the maintenance dose of two) and have run literally several thousand miles since I started using it.

Important: Shop for price. There are web sites that sell 144 capsules in a 2 pack that costs less than buying this product in other quantities.

After my daughter had hip surgery, her orthopedic doctor recommended Glucosamine, and this brand in particular. I had tried another brand of glucosamine/chondroitin a few years before and it didn't help. I decided to try it again and bought this brand. It's been like a miracle! (You do have to use it 2-3 months before it "kicks in".) I have arthritis and my thumb, big toe, and hip pain of almost 10 years went away. Also, when I sit for a long time, especially in a comfy chair, when I stand up I no longer have that trouble straightening up at first due to the back pain and stiffness.
Twice I tried going off or cutting back to 1 pill a day and within weeks the aches came back.
The only problem is that after a year it doesn't seem to be working as well anymore. I'm on 2-a-day which is the max for long term indefinite use.

I like Cosamin DS, they work better than other similar products I have tried but these are NOT double strength. The pills are the same size and contain exactly the same amounts of the same ingredients as stated on the label. The price was the same as the single strength so no loss but no gain either.
