Flashback to September 26,1985. The Cosby Show began its second season after finishing at #3 the previous season. Comedian Bill Cosby and NBC indeed owned Thursday nights and started dancing with his six co-stars. FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL features the Huxtable children(minus the oldest who was in college) preparing for the first day of school. Denise(Lisa Bonet) is a high school senior,Theo(Malcolm Jamal Warner) is a sophomore,Vanessa(Tempest Bledsoe) begins middle school and Rudy(Keshia Knight Pulliam) begins first grade. The kids' parents Cliff(Cosby) and Clair(Phylicia Ayers Allen) have their own first-day-of-school celebration). In THE JUICER,Cliff purchases a juicing machine only to be improperly operated by 6-year-old Rudy. Clair,a legal aid attorney,"tries" Cliff for contributing to the delinquency of Rudy. In HAPPY ANNIVERSARY,Cliff's parents Russell and Anna(Earle Hyman and Clarice Taylor,recurringly) celebrate their 49th wedding anniversary and receive a painting bearing their much younger likenesses and an all-expense paid cruise. In CLIFF IN LOVE,the oldest Huxtable kid Sondra(Sabrina LeBeauf) is suffering from a break-up with her Princeton University sweetheart Elvin Tibidaux(Geoffrey Owens,recurringly and making his debut on the series). The couple soon reconcile. THEO AND THE OLDER WOMAN features Theo developing a crush on one of Denise's classmates who writes a story on family life for a class assignment. HALLOWEEN premiered on October 31,1985,perfect timing! Vanessa and Rudy have their own Halloween parties in the Huxtable household. Cliff and Clair have their party for two and Denise and Theo attend a party at a mutual friend's house. In DENISE DRIVES,the newly-licensed Denise buys a used 1962 Starfire that the aunt of one of Cliff's friends was selling. In RUDY SUITS UP,Rudy does just that for her little league football season and her team is defeated in the end. Also latecomer Joseph C. Phillips guest-stars in CIL and his character comforts broken-hearted Sondra. Phillips played navy Lieutenant Martin Kendall,Denise's later-husband on the series from 1989 to '92.
