Very happy with this crib,

We have two of these - currently one is at the home of each set of grandparents, and we're going to have to duke it out over which one has to give it up so it can come back to our house when the new baby is born. We bought a regular full sized crib for our daughter's room and we bought this second crib to go in our room when she was a newborn. Even though we lived in an apartment where space was cramped (and with a king sized bed) we were still able to fit this easily into our apartment master bedroom. It's much smaller than a full-sized crib, but still large enough to comfortably accomodate a child who needs to sleep in a crib. Our daughter moved out of her regular crib at around 17 mos, and she is starting to get tall enough now at 22 mos that I can tell she won't be in this one much longer either. This is a matter of how tall she is standing along the rails, though, NOT a matter of the length of the crib. The metal construction on this crib is very sturdy and it's easy to fold up. One of the nicest features of this crib is that it fits through doorways without folding up, which has made it very convenient for times when we have guests and need to move the baby around or when, for whatever reason, we need to move her out of her room. Just thinking about trying to move our full sized crib anywhere outside of the room where it was assembled makes me shudder. The mattress for this crib is a little [flimsy] and thin. Our daughter doesn't seem to have any complaints about it, but it doesn't seem as nice to me as a full sized mattress. Having said that, though, I will say that it sits on a board, so it doesn't need to have the built in support of regular crib mattresses, and it is also SO much easier to put sheets on than a regular crib mattress. The other possible downside for this crib is that it is somewhat heavy. We did take it on vacation with us but it's not something you can fly with like a travel yard. Overall, though I have been much happier with this crib than with our travel yard. They just aren't in the same category. This is a "real" crib, and for the price it can't be beat. It doesn't have all the features of our regular crib (e.g. no drop side, etc) but we've been very happy with it overall, and honestly regular cribs are made much bigger than they need to be anyway. This crib, at about 3/4 the length of a regular crib is quite ample for our daughter still at 22 months, and she still sleeps in it every week when she visits Grandma during her naptime. It's not the most beautiful of cribs (looks a little like an orphanage crib to me) but for at least several hundred dollars less than those beautiful cribs, I have no complaints! Overall we've been very happy and are looking forward to using it with number #2 to keep him/her close to us at night for night feedings.

I bought this because my daughter has hated the pack n play from day one. She is now 13 months old and it was a major battle at each travel destination. When we decided to leave her with grandma for a few nights we knew we needed a crib. This one is great because it is very sturdy. The folding locks take a bit of getting used to, but they work well. The mattress is thin and we purchased a mattress for it for about $20. I bought portable crib sheets at Babies R Us and they work great. My daughter sleeps in this like her regular crib and I think we will get a lot of use from it! It does fold nice and flat, but it is still large for the average car. We can put it in our Suburban. It would be nice if they made one that has sides that fold in half for storage, but no one does! I love this crib.

We bought this crib to put our baby in when we moved into a two bedroom home. Our daughter had grown out of her basinette, but we did not have a lot of room in our house and still wanted to have her with us in our room. This portacrib is the perfect solution. It is very sturdy, has great locks for safety, the wheels make it super easy to move from room to room, and it folds us to be stored in closet or under a bed. We thought we would be folding it up a lot because we didnt want to ruin the decor in our room, but it is very attractive--it reminds me a bit of an antique cast iron crib--and it rolls so easily that if we need to move it to get to something in our room, there is no problem. Further, it has a good enough mattress that we didnt feel we needed to buy another one. Out of all the portable cribs (evenflo, delta) we found this was the best buy and had the best options--the mattress adjusts to two heights, it rolls easily, looks good, and does not feel flimsy. This crib will last us a long time. Highly recommend it! The only drawback is that the sides do not drop down, but the crib itself is shallow enough that it isnt a big deal.

Altough my nephew has a standard size convertible crib... his parents needed to get this one when he outgrew the bassinet and still wasn't sleeping well through the night. He is now 7 1/2 months old and still sleeps in his parents bedroom and in this crib. I'm his nanny and I also use it for naptimes. It's sturdy, not too big, not too small. Can fit everywhere and since it's white... it goes with everything. And you can't beat the price. Supposedly, you can use it up to three years but I'm not so sure about that because what will you do when your child gets to that age when he learns how to get out of the crib? you will need to change him to a toddler bed and that will happend before he is three. Anyway, you'll be able to use it as long as you would use a standard size crib. The sides don't go up and down but you have two mattress's positions. The mattress may not be the best but it looks ok. There's some kind of plastic on it that make a lot of noise when the baby moves but we fixed that by putting a large towel on it (no more noise). Another good thing about this crib is that it has wheels so you can move it when you need it (good for small rooms). It goes smoothly even on carpet. I moved it several times when my nephew was sleeping in it and he never woke up. The only thing I don't like about this crib is that it's made of metal which is always very cold. My nephew started to pull himself up to standing position at 6 months (he's very strong) so when he holds on to the crib his hands are always very cold, but he doesn't seem concerned about it though. In my opinion this crib is worth a try!

Short on space? This crib fits the bill.,

We needed a crib that fit a small space. We had been thinking of actually building a custom crib when we came across this crib on Amazon. We took and gamble after we read the reviews and were not disappointed. This crib is the perfect size for small spaces. The crib is a very high quality. Although the look is very simple (reminds us of cribs from the 1930s), our 9-month-old daughter seems to love the size. The mattress is firm and the support for the mattress is sturdy. The frame is very stable and doesn't rattle. The crib is deep enough that our daughter will be able to sleep in it for quite a while. However, it's shallow enough that we don't mind that fact that the sides don't lower. If you're looking for a quality crib that fits a small space (or is portable), this crib should do just fine. The first time we put our daughter in it for a nap, she slept like a baby (pardon the pun).

great alternative to crib or packnplay,

After reading several reviews I decided to purchase this for my in-law's house, so my son had a sturdy place to sleep when we visited. Ultimately, we use this crib for a couple of reasons... when we travel by car or spend a night away, we take it with us (it folds quite compactly and is much more crib-like than a pack-n-play),and when guests stay in our son's room we set it up in our room. This simple white metal crib is about two thirds the size of a standard crib, is very sturdy, folds easily, flattens for storage, and can be moved around on it's wheels through doorways etc (something a crib usually cannot). I highly recommend this crib over it's wooden counterpart (doesn't seem as sturdy even in the store's display) and even in place of a pack 'n' play for those of you who's kids can't sleep on a piece of plastic so near to the ground (unless of course you travel by plane or have very little room).

I bought this crib because we're doing renovations on our house and there is only one room to sleep in right now. We bought a regular sized crib but it is set up in our room, so it makes sleeping difficult for all. We got this it is the only sturdy portable crib I've ever seen comes with everything no need to buy mattress and my god sent now we can all have a good nights sleep, and what I like the most you don't have to take it down to go from room to room it completely fits through the doorway.

Sturdy, Attractive, and a great value,

I'm the thankful owner of 24 of these cribs--so far. As a childcare center operator, I have used many brands of cribs over the years. This is hands down the best. It is as sturdy a crib as you can buy, and looks good even after 5 years of heavy use. It costs about 1/3 of what I would pay for a wooden compact crib made for daycare use, and still folds up when we don't need it! All other folding cribs I've ever bought were wobbly, and looked ready to fall apart after a year or two. I'll never buy anything else again!

Sturdy & Useful, great for visits to Grandma or relatives!,

This review is from: Cosco Portable Crib - White (Baby Product)
We bought this crib when we were visiting at my mother's a couple weeks ago over the Martin Luther King holiday. My son is 18 months old and we needed a safe place for him to sleep. We have "co-slept" with him on visits before, and he is so active at night we ended up getting kicked a lot and not getting any sleep! Plus, he actually rolled off the bed on a previous visit. So, we needed a safer option that would allow him and us to get a good night's sleep. We bought this at Babies R Us, and there were two other portable cribs to compare this with; this one was by far the sturdiest and most attractive. The side does not go down, but that ended up not being much of a problem. The crib is of a very convenient size, it can be rolled easily through standard doorways, and it was great because he could sleep with us in my mother's small guest room. The crib also folds up and can be easily stored in a closet or basement, etc. A couple of the casters lock, which is convenient for a kid that moves around a lot at night and may cause the crib to roll a bit. Please note: growing, active toddlers need to be supervised with this crib (as with any crib, actually), since it is smaller than a full-size one, but for sleeping it's perfect. The plastic on the mattress is noisy but easily solved, as another reviewer pointed out, by lining it with a towel or pad. Special-sized bedding for portable cribs is available but not necessary, as you can get by with standard-sized bedding; for a portable crib that's not used often, you can get bumpers and sheets at yard sales and save some money that way. I now have a new nephew and when he visits his grandmother, there will be a safe, sturdy crib there for him to sleep in. I highly recommend this product!

It makes a great bassinette!,

We got this porta-crib for my son to sleep in while my Mom babysits. She needed a crib that can fit easily in her guestroom, and fold up when not needed. She also has a bad back and couldn't lift an infant out of the bottom of a pack-n-play. The bassinette portions of pack n plays max out at 15 lbs, and my son was nearly 14 lbs at only 2 months. According to the display at my local Babies R Us, this crib is safe for a child up to 50 lbs. We used it daily the first few months. This crib sets up in only a few minutes, and comes with its own mattress. It's a nice mattress- no need to buy a separate one. It's safe and sturdy without needing a degree in engineering to assemble it. It fits easily through a standard doorway when fully open. There is room to attach a busy box on the head or foot of the crib, even with the higher mattress setting. Once my son was 5mo and mobile, we had to lower the mattress. My mother could no longer lift him in and out of the crib. We have never been able to put him down in it without waking him up. Now that he can pull himself to a stand, he often falls backwards and hits his head on the hard metal bars, making it innapropriate as a play yard. A few weeks after lowering the mattress, wea realized it was no longer useful, and we folded it up and put it away. It can be unfolded and made ready for use in about 1 minute. I wish I had bought the wooden portacrib with the adjustable side. It would have gotten more use. |
