I bought this for my 80 year-old mother, so she could sit while she does kitchen chores.

The stool is light-weight enough for her to move and provides a comfortable seat.

There are two drawbacks: the step part of the stool doesn't come out quite far enough, giving the feeling of instability. Also, I assumed the entire unit folded for storage, but this is not the case. Only the steps fold in.

Both of the above are minor drawbacks and I would recomend this item to anyone.

I owned a Cosco stool previous to this one which I had for many, many years. So when I was ready to purchase a new one I returned to the Cosco brand expecting to receive the same quality product I had in the past. My main disappointment is that the chair it so small it would be hard for a normal sized adult to sit on and be comfortable. Also mine arrived with a small rip in the vinyl on the seat at one of the corners. I wish they had not sacrificed size and quality for price since the older products lasted 20 years or longer.

The service and delivery of this product were excellent. However, the backrest was damaged. The plastic was coming away from the metal. It was as though there was not enough "seam" allowance. The company promptly replaced the chair twice (we now have three) and both of the replacements have exactly the same problem! We gave up.

The 1st one was for my mother & she would not do without it.
The 2nd one is for her friend that saw my mother's & then wanted one.
The 1st came assembled from a different source. The second one, from Amazon, I had to assemble the back rest to the frame. It would have gone very smoothly had I known the hardware was metric not English. My 3/8 socket fit on a couple of the nuts but not on others. You need a 10mm socket or wrench & a good #2 Phillips screwdriver.
Be sure to mind which end of the box to open 1st. It's marked. If you use a box cutter on the wrong end, you will slit the seat.
Shipment was fast.

When I first started looking for a step stool like the one I had in the 60s, nobody, included Amazon, stocked this. Then One morning, I decided to buy another model, and there was the thing I've been looking for. In stock, at last. From memory, this isn't quite as strong, and the seat seems smaller, bur it gets me to the top of my kitchen cabinets, and enables me to sit to prepare food, when I'm tired, and it's lightweight to move around. It's a multi-purpose piece of furniture which really functions for both its purposes, and I like that.

I will add that I am not a large person. If I weighed 200lbs, I would not buy this.

We got this for our daughter at 17 mos. We have it at our counter so she can use this chair instead of climbing up on our bar stools. She still needs to be supervised but it is alot safer and more stable than anything else we could find. OK 2012 update: Our daughter is now almost 8 years old. We still use the chair and it is still highly functional as a step stool and extra seating. I wouldn't do white again since it is a bit stained from all the use but I'd definitely buy this product again.

I purchased this 'newer model' step stool chair for a slight retro addition to my kitchen. With the white powder coat finish it doesn't quite look as industrial as the more typical red and yellow model which makes a softer transition for my particular application. It's not terribly comfortable (obviously not a lounge chair) but it serves it's purpose quite well. At 5'11 I couldn't see into my uppermost kitchen cabinet shelves but now it's a breeze. The chair tucks nicely under my kitchen counter alongside the trash can. I have a small kitchen with a 4 seat table and two seat bar. It's a bit high for my table use and a tad short the bar but it adds an important spare seat as I often entertain in the kitchen/dining area more than the living room. It's lightweight and super simple to assemble. If you have open undercounter space, these are a super addition to any kitchen but there's another option. I have a 50's era Cosco stool that belonged to my great aunt that I tucked in a corner and use for a plant stand. This stool could easily be used the same way. Cosco has a great dual purpose product here that can easily be used in more than only two ways. I give it 5 stars on form, function, and price.

This step stool was not very difficult to put together at all. I read some reviews prior to purchasing it, and they were correct that you have to remove the seat to screw on the back. However, I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't that hard to do. I gave this as a gift to my friend and she absolutely loves it.
