Pro's: Can be used in many ways. Will replace my 8 foot step ladder and I needed a 10 foot step ladder and an extension ladder and now I have one. This is my second ladder and it is much more sturdy than the first one (the first one looked like it had been well used and then returned).

Con's: This thing is heavy. It is a bit awkward to move around. Hands get dirty because of the aluminum. I do not think this is necessary. Also have to watch your fingers when you set it up or you may lose one! Not sure of how long it will stand up as I did get one before and it was really lose and unstable, but this one seems good.

All in all I think it is good. I will keep it but it is not a 5 star unit. But with a few fixes at the factory, I think it could be a 5 star ladder.

I bought this ladder and after having used it for about a week, decided to return it and upgraded to a Little Giant. First, the ladder was covered with a black dust that rubbed off on the clothes and hands. The Little Giant hasn't had that problem. Second, the hinge is enclosed and I cannot see that it's not locked unlike the little giant. The mechanism works with a dial while the Little Giant has a push knob, which I found easier to use. The Little Giant also has a much more solid hinge than the Cosco.

I understand that the Werner line of adjustable ladders are closer to the Little Giant design, but I paid extra to go American made and couldn't be happier with the quality.

Edit: It appears certain Little Giant ladders are no longer made in the usa. Check the Little Giant website for exact model information.

I bought this ladder from walmart for $117 and really like it. It's easy to adjust and reasonable light considering it's size/versatility. My only complaint is it makes my hands black when I handle it (despite trying to wipe it all off).

I first saw all the ads on TV for the little giant. I work maintenance at a couple of Fitness Clubs at night and needed a secure, versatile ladder for high ceilings, stairs, etc. and considered buying one. Then I saw the Cosco brand for half of Little Giants and purchased it for the same price as above. I have used it now for 3 years and love it. Expecially for high places, I feel more secure on it than a lot of extension ladders I've used in the past. Great Ladder.

i've only had the ladder for a couple of days and it's already been quite useful. a little heavier than i might like, but considering that it's like having 5 ladders in the truck at all times without the need for a ladder rack, and it has a 300 lb capacity, i think it's a fair trade off. i read various complaints about black crud on your hands from handling it which is true enough, but it's nothing a bucket of soapy water and a half hour didn't take care of. i plan on springing for a stabilizer pretty soon as well. if you can catch one on sale (which i didn't) then so much the better. overall i'm quite happy.

p.s. - shipping was earlier than expected and was packaged well

So far so good. I have a little trouble getting the ladder to lock in certain positions, but overall seems to be a great value for the money.

Have been using ladder for about a month now and love it. It's a little on the heavy side for my wife but she was still able to move it around to decorate her 14' Christmas tree. Love the ladder!

This is the first ladder I've ever bought. I'm a homeowner, and I have cathedral ceilings. I bought this ladder to reach the smoke detector to change the battery. It is a very sturdy ladder, but heavy as others have mentioned. Also your hands will get dirty touching it - kind of annoying, but not a deal-breaker.

The ladder is technically not 17ft, but instead it has a 17ft maximum reach*. (*Assumes 5 ft 6 in person with 12 in reach.) If you measure the ladder fully extended, I think it is only 15 ft end to end. Still, that meets my needs to change smoke detector batteries and hang Christmas lights on the roof.

It stores away nicely and fits easily in a car for travel.
