For those who have a lot of time, January 12, 2007
This review is from: Cosmetics from the Earth: A Guide to Natural Beauty (Paperback)
I found this to be more work and more things I would have to buy than would be worth it. For someone that loves to create things it might be good.

A Useful and Beautiful Guide, January 23, 2012
This review is from: Cosmetics from the Earth: A Guide to Natural Beauty (Paperback)
To begin with, the book is beautifully produced, on quality paper; slightly oversized, accomodating the nature of the material covered, including its various helpful charts. There is a comprehensive, very nicely illustrated, materia medica - to my mind, the core of the book. Here's the Table of Contents:
The Cosmos of Cosmetics - Overview of the range of natural beauty aids from all over the world; the active principles of the different parts of the plants and their cosmetic use.
A Practical Guide to the Plants and Their Use - Alphabetical list of cosmetic plants and their use.
Cosmetic Plans: A Lexicon - Full botanical description and representation of 172 plants: a field guide to the recognition and harvesting of wild plants.
Paradise Lost: In Quest of Beauty - A short history of personal adornment from the Fall to modern times.
Adornment in the Ancient World - Beauty practices in the major civilizations of Antiquity.
Nature's Beauty Parlor - A closer look at the plants: specific parts used; active principles, harvesting; collecting and storing instructions.
For Every Aspect of Body Care - From head to toe, advice and useful tips on personal health, hygiene and beauty.
Cosmetics and Perfumes of the East - The Oriental way to beauty.
The Home Cosmetician - More than 200 recipes for a variety of cosmetic and toilet preparations.
Preparing Natural Cosmetics - The basic techniques of herbal preparations, the equipment required, instructions for collecting, drying and storing.
The Art of Perfumery - The harmonic composition of flower scents, how to extract essential oils at home.
Appendix - Other non-herbal natural products used in perfumery and cosmetics.
Cosmetics from the Earth was put together with loving care and lavished with lovely photos and graphics.
