Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 8 Up-Each of these titles describes more than 20 careers. Art includes performing arts, photography, film, and the fine arts. Medical Technicians offers jobs that vary from medical assistant to dietetic technician to perfusionist. Sports includes golf-course superintendent, pro-athlete, and stadium vendor. The format for all of them is the same: a definition of the position, followed by history, nature of the work, educational or other requirements, methods of exploring and entering the field, advancement opportunities, employment outlook, salaries, and working conditions. The writing is factual and thorough, but dry. There are no illustrations. Addresses to contact for more information are listed but there are no bibliographies. These books update and complement Marjorie Eberts and Margaret Gisler's Careers for Culture Lovers & Other Artsy Types (1995), Karen Karni's Opportunities in Medical Technology (1996), and W. Ray Heitzmann's Careers for Sports Nuts & Other Athletic Types (1994, all VGM).
