About the Author

More than 120 million readers have found comfort in the writings of Max Lucado. He ministers at the Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, Texas, where he lives with his wife, Denalyn, and a sweet but misbehaving mutt, Andy.

More About the Author

In just under two decades of writing, Max Lucado has accomplished more than most writers hope for in a lifetime. Most of his books have appeared on one or more best seller lists, including those published by the "New York Times," "USA Today," "Publishers Weekly," and the Christian Booksellers Association (CBA). Aside from hardcover books, Lucado's writings have also been published as children's books, videos, CD-ROMs, DVDs, music CDs, mass paperback booklets, apparel, giftware, bookmarks, calendars, study Bibles, workbooks, curricula, and plush products. In spring 2003, Hallmark/Dayspring Cards launched a new gift card line featuring excerpts from Lucado's writings--and has already sold more than one million cards.

All this success has drawn more than a little attention to a previously low-profile Texas author and minister. Lucado has been featured in a wide range of media, including "USA Today," "Larry King Live," and "NBC Nightly News." He has spoken at the National Prayer Breakfast before the President of the United States. He has traveled with internationally renowned musicians as a special speaker on their music tours, such as the highly successful "Come Together & Worship Tour" (sponsored by Chevrolet) with Grammy Award-winning artists Michael W. Smith and Third Day.

Journey to the Top
Lucado was born in 1955 in San Angelo, Texas, and raised in Andrews, Texas, the youngest of four children. His father was an Exxon oil field mechanic who, Lucado remembers, always smelled of grease cleaner. "It makes it easy for me to see a God who is loving and kind--because my dad was," he says. His mother was a nurse who grew up working in the cotton fields.

Lucado went through a period of rebellion against his parents' values and their God during his teens and into college. But it wasn't long before he found himself drawn back to his roots, back to God. He married, spent time serving as a missionary in Brazil, and returned to the States, where he began working as a church minister and writing on the side.

Secret to Success
From all accounts, Max Lucado is not a man consumed by sales, awards, and achievements. He often turns down media interviews since they impede on family and ministry commitments. He spends the bulk of his week serving as senior minister at Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, Texas. And he is truly surprised by his own success--more impressed by his one-in-a-million wife and three amazing daughters than by his successful writing career.

For years we've read this book together as a family at Christmas time- we all still love it!

It really makes you think of how it may have been and how much God really loves us and to what extent He will go to show His love for us.
Peteman
I love Lucado's ability to bring absolute joy into this story as he does is much of his writing.

I first read this book a little over eight months ago when one of my Sunday school teachers read an excerpt from the book. I have now read this book at least a dozen times and foresee reading it at least a dozen more. Not only does Max Lucado present his conception of Christmas; but he clearly reveals God's LOVE for His Children! If ever there was a book for all Christians to read--especially we Baby Christians--this is it! Every child, growing up in a Christian Home, should have this book nearby. It has refocused me time and again!

This book explains God's plan from an angel's point of view. True to the Lucado style of writing, it keeps the reader on his toes and gives us another insight into the deepness of our Creator's love. An excellent gift for any occaision.

I fell in love with the books of Max Lucado a few years ago. All of his stories are very easy to read. I started to read Cosmic Christmas and became completely addicted. When I first picked it up, I just read a few pages. I couldn't wait to get back to it. I had to make time to finish the book. I couldn't think about anything else. Everyone I have loaned it to has said the same thing. "I just can't put it down!" It is a wonderful story, creatively written. You can actually feel the throne room. You can feel the Hell Hounds around you. You can feel yourself standing in the presense of the baby king, Jesus. I highly recommend this book to everyone of all ages. It also makes a great Christmas gift.

In less than an hour last Christmas Eve, my understanding and experience of Christmas was forever changed. Cosmic Christmas gave me a new way to look at and understand God's gift of divinity in flesh to humanity. Wow...absolutely breathtaking. Definitely the best way I have ever spent Christmas Eve, and I highly recommend this book. Among the top 5 books I have ever read.

My pastor read us this story on Christmas Eve, very much like a father would read to his children;in front of a faux fireplace and Christmas tree in a large overstuffed chair. He even had people acting it out behind him on stage dressed as Satan, and Gabriel, and so on.. I have never been so moved by any one book. As soon he finished it, I made sure to put in a order at my local bookstore and read it 3 times the first day. It really makes you realize how much the Lord loves us. More importantly it shows how much Satan wants to succeed in making us FAIL. I have since recommended it to every person I know, and have told a dozen more about it. It's a very beatiful, very different spin on the traditional Christmas story. Let's face it, we all know why we celebrate the season, but do we know the reason behind God's plan? Even thought it is a work of fiction, I think all will agree this book is very worth taking an hour out of your day to read.

I always imagined Jesus' birth as a peaceful event, lambs lowing, all's right with the world. This book opened my eyes to other possibilities and it's probably much closer to the truth.

Although by his own admission largely fictionalized, Lucado delivers another winner of a story. Great for teenagers and up...probably challenging for younger readers because you have to visualize and think beyond what is written (which is not hard, with all the description Lucado provides). I have been focusing lately on spiritual warfare with the Bible study I have been teaching and one of my students gave me this book for Christmas...it is truly a powerful picture of all that goes on between God and Satan that we do not have privilege (thankfully, I think) to see. Even though you know how the story turns out (Christ WAS born, after all) it is still an exciting story that made me think --what IF the vial had been broken? It made me appreciate Christ more and think about God in a deeper way.

I first heard this story in sixth grade yet my teacher never finished it. At the end of the school year I asked to borrow it, and she let me. I read it in about a half hour and being a Lutheran all my life it really expanded my knowledge of the Christmas Story that no one had ever shared with me before. I'm now a freshman in high school and have read it many times, and I'm still begging my mom to get it fo me for Christmas.
