This review is from: Cosmic Consciousness: The Man-God Whom We Await (Paperback)
During lean years, I sold my first edition of the Dr. Bucke classic. Kind of sorry I did that, but I found another, smaller sized book, hard bound, with the same title, but by a different author, "Ali Nomad". Doing a little research, I discovered that Ali Nomad is the nom de plume used by Dr. Alexander J. McIvor-Tyndall, founder of the International New Thought Fellowship. Doing a little more research, it appears that Dr. McIvor-Tyndall was a rather popular showman-hypnotist of his time. Since buying the book, I have even verified its authenticity with a living granddaughter of Dr. McIvor-Tyndall. My little book has a white sticker on its title page, with red letters, bearing the insignia of the I.N.T.F., and a red swastika. The signature, in black ink, is that of the book's author, Dr. Alexander McIvor-Tyndal. This book I own was, in fact, the personal property of author McIvor-Tyndall (I realize that before the swastika was adopted by the Nazis, it had occult significance. During this period, however, occultists and spiritists promoted eugenics, which is a euphemism for sterilization and state governed breeding of citizens. Basically, eugenics was racism. Sympathy for eugenics was quite common in the early 20th century, and Mr. McIvor-Tyndall, er, Ali Nomad, does refer to it several times throughout this book as a means of breeding a better race of homo sapien).
Cosmic Consciousness is organized very similarly to its big brother, "Cosmic Consciousness", the Richard Maurice Bucke version. The author explores the New Birth, man's relationship to God, self- and selflessness, Jesus, Paul of Tarsis, Mahommed, and intellectual cosmic consciousness, among other topics.
My copy has some interesting ephemera at the back, advertisements for various books on hypnosis and the occult. An example: "Clairvoyance and Occult Powers" by Swami Panchadasi, author of "The Human Aura", "The Astral World", etc.
