5.0 out of 5 stars Here Wii Go!
We bought the Wii game system back in January or February. I have a ten year old and a four year old. The ten year old loves it, absolutely. I think he'd be willing to give up a kidney rather than lose the Wii (and I have to concur). The four year old was a little disillusioned because she can't quite get the hang of the games. 3.0 out of 5 stars For the 3-5 set
My 4 year old is generally reluctant to play the Wii with anyone else, as he doesn't feel comfortable. He'll noodle around with some games that his older brother (7) has mastered, but not with anyone else watching. This is the first game that I was invited to play with him. Yes, he mastered it in about 3 days, playing an hour or so a day, but he likes the mini-games...

She was almost okay with baseball and bowling, but not quite. So when the rest of us wanted to Wii, she'd get annoyed, then annoying. She'd march through our bowling alley demanding to be heard!

Then I stumbled upon Cosmic Family. The genius of this game is that it is aimed at 4-8 year olds, and is excellent for hand-eye coordination, problem-solving, and has music and dancing segments that made my daughter start dancing around the room (physical exercise). She found this game extremely user friendly (took her about 5 minutes to get the hang of it), and there's an elephant you can click if you get stuck. There's puzzles, interactive games, and a family that lives in rocket ship...what can be cooler than that?

I can see the advantages to her playing this game already. It will help her with future mouse-control on the computer, and as previously stated, the problem-solving skills are very beneficial. To give an example, there is a "mixed-up" room that she needs to point, click and drag to the right area. When she gets the room in proper order, confetti covers the screen, and music plays. She gets to progress to the next level, or keep solving more of the same puzzles.

We've only had the game one day so far, but she loves it, and so do I. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for younger kids!, October 10, 2007
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Cosmic Family (Video Game)
I agree with the other reviewer. We have an 8-year-old and a 4-year-old. The younger one wanted to be involved in playing games, but didn't quite get the hang of it; it led to frustration for her and for us (as we tried to explain how to play the other games). We just got this game yesterday and she is already understanding what to do and is playing by herself. So nice to have a fun (and educational!) game for her so that she doesn't feel left out.

I purchased this for my four year old, because he was feeling left out of all the Wii games we play. He was able to do a few games on his own on Wii Sports and Wario Ware Smooth Moves, but needed assistance most of the time. Not so with this game - I put it in and handed him the remote - he was off! The game is great, it has 3 difficulty levels and requires the kids to play a good variety of puzzle games. As they explore the spaceship, there are quite a few humorous movies that they can activate as well. I feel good about letting him play this on the weekend - he is really engaged and thinking, and I can see that it is definitely helping his fine motor skills as well. As long as parents are responsible, and limit the time their children spend playing video games, I think this is a great choice.

This is a not a game with staying power, but we got it for $15 on sale, and it is probably worth that.

1.0 out of 5 stars WASTE OF MONEY, May 24, 2008
By
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Cosmic Family (Video Game)
I cannot believe this game garnered more than two stars from anyone. I have a hard time believing the previous positive reviewers have actually played the game. I'm more inclined to think they work for Ubisoft.
I started my 4 year old on the lowest level & what a let down it was! The controls, options and graphics are all very much lacking. It actually took me several tries to figure out what to do in many spots (ON THE EASIEST LEVEL) because the instructions/game play made no sense! When you make a choice a window pops up on screen asking you if you're sure this is what you wanted to do, but many times I didn't know what I had done to know if I wanted to do it or not. And we're actually a pretty intelligent family here.

My 11 yr old son was amazed at how poorly this game was designed. We were watching my 4 yr old play and it was unbelievable how little effort was put into game design. As you move around the family's home you can click on different items & make something happen. Something very LAME. The fridge door opens & closes so fast when you click it you can't even tell what it was that just popped out!

THE WORST PART of the game is that as a game aimed at small children it has some rather questionable parts. We all looked at each other in disbelief when my daughter wandered into the family's kitchen. If you click on the stove, a new window opens and there you see mom & son baking. THE MOTHER OPENS THE OVEN & THE BOYS FEET ARE DANGLING OVER THE OPEN OVEN DOOR AS A FIRE ERUPTS. He is literally sitting right above the oven!!! What were they thinking?????

In another part of game play you click on the TV & this animated dance scene starts. It's just person after person coming on screen dancing but some of the characters really left us scratching our heads. A handful of the female characters have incredibly large breasts literally bouncing all over the place... one even has giant spirally things on her breasts, as if you could miss them!! I watched that a few more times trying to decide if I was seeing things or just over-reacting. Yes they're clothed but still..... what was the point of that?? I'm pretty sure one of the men grabs his crotch, although I could have imagined that part but I was too afraid to watch the whole thing again to see for sure. I seriously think someone at Ubisoft was trying to be funny & see if anyone actually paid attention to this game. Now, it IS almost worth buying the game to see if I'm making this part up, I showed it to a few other adults who also just shook their heads.... it's something you'd expect to see on The Family Guy, or some other adult oriented animated feature!

Needless to say after a mere 10 minutes I was disgusted that I had wasted so much money on this game. I honestly thought "well I could sell it on Ebay" but I wouldn't want ANYONE else to be subjected to this pathetic excuse for a game. If you want a game for a little one Diego is a much better choice. It too could use a lot of work & leaves much to be desired but Cosmic Family was a cosmic letdown!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great introduction to the Wii for preschoolers!, July 13, 2008

We were having a hard time finding a Wii game that our 3.5 yo DD could play or even relate to, but Cosmic Family has fulfilled that desire. She enjoys the fun stories and can easily play along with the "adventure" or the 20 mini-games and activities. There are 3 game levels that you can choose, perfect as they progress in skills. There are educational themes like shape &/or color matching and sorting, puzzles, associations, sound memory and painting/drawing. She learned to use the Wii remote easily with this game. Oh, and the elephant is always there to click on for help, our DD loves him! Some of the mini-games also have glasses you can click for help if you get stuck, kind of like a hint. Our DD does occasionally need help w/ the more advanced concepts, but we all play it together anyway. This is a great game for younger children to feel included in Wii fun, and can even be fun for a little mindless adult entertainment! :-) We definitely recommend it!

This game is perfect for my four year old! She loves to play all the mini games, adventure, and just draw/color. Should keep interests of older children up to maybe 10 years old.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good game to practice Wiimote skills, December 24, 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Cosmic Family (Video Game)
We bought this game for our then 5 year old daughter based on reviews we read online. It's not the most complicated of games, but she enjoys the various puzzles. I'd say it took her about a week to complete the easiest level, mostly because she enjoyed several of the mini-games and would play them over and over rather than advancing through the game.

Included are puzzles, matching, coloring pages as well as other logic puzzles. There are also little shorts that show the Cosmic Family in their daily activities that are shown when you click on various items. Some of the cartoons are silly, but one or two makes me think the designers were trying to be funny and slip some adult humor into the game. I admit there were a couple of scenes where my husband and I looked at each other wondering what they were thinking.

This game does require more precise Wiimote control than my daughter's other games like Disney Princesses or Diego. Some of the places to point can be rather tricky so your child may need help. Also the elephant can be kind of hard to hear sometimes, the background music can overwhelm him while he's giving directions. Overall, we spend less than $20 on this game used and for that price we're happy with the purchase.

I love that this game is educational and has NO violence. My 6 year old beat it in about 4 hours. You can still play all the mini games afterwards. I just wish it took loger to beat. My 3 year old loved watching the 6 year old play and tried to help tell him where things went.

My kids are pretty techno-advanced for 4 and 2. They play flash games on [...] all the time.

I got Cosmic family for the 4 yr old. It took a bit for her to get good at holding the wii remote steady, which is pretty much the only mechanical skill required for all the games.

The sound volume leaves a lot to be desired. The music often overpowers the directions from the elephant, so I'm constantly listening for her so I can tell her what the instructions are. I kept looking for the music volume adjustment, but it's not here.

We played on the lowest skill level... maybe doing a harder level would change my opinion of things, but the game seemed pretty simplistic. She does like the mini-games, but often they were so easy they were over in seconds.

I kept waiting for there to be a plot, I guess I should have known better. We don't get actually interactive with the family, we just kind of roam around their home. The big surprise at the ending was kind of a let down.

If you can find this game cheap someplace, I'd say it's ok. The ~$[...] I got it for on Amazon was ok, but maybe just a bit more than this game is worth.
