Book Description

1402022557 978-1402022555 December 20, 2004 1
This book presents the most updated review of our current knowledge of cosmic gamma-ray sources. Besides chapters devoted to each type of known gamma-ray emitting object, it provides a self-contained introduction to gamma-ray astrophysics, including a description of the relevant physical processes, a guide through the basic phenomenology, and the prospects for further advances. The book will be of interest for all active researchers in the field, for scientists interested in understanding the recent progress in gamma-ray astronomy, and for graduate students.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good source of astrophysical knowledge, July 4, 2005
This review is from: Cosmic Gamma-Ray Sources (Hardcover)
To revisit any relevant theory of high energy emission for a particular object, one can take this book and go directly to the subject, overcoming an exhaustive search through pages and pages as it happens for less specifically aimed astrophysics books. The review on high energy emission mechanisms is also very good, giving a good overview to all of those which are relevant for the field. Moreover, the style of the text, although many writers shared the duty of writing it, is understandable and well ordered, allowing for a first understanding of the subjects after a rapid reading. It is therefore a good book for general and concrete purposes of learning what is going on in the fields considered as well as the physics underlying them.
